Central Coast Audiology is a full service diagnostic dispensing audiology clinic. Unlike those big sterile clinics, we offer you personalized and compassionate service. Due to demand of our overwhelming service we opened a clinic in Salinas California servicing patients on an appointment only basis. CCA opened the Salinas office as a part time clinic in 2005 where we service the hearing impaired and conduct audio logic research for private hearing manufactures for the improvement and development of future technology in hearing aids. In addition to audiometric studies we have looked at areas of depression and hearing loss and hearing profiling. We are a practice that puts 100% into the patient. We are compassionate and caring. We feel blessed to be able to help those who are not as fortunate with hearing.

Your Ears On... The Great Outdoors. One of the first things our patients notice after getting hearing aids is the "return" of soft sounds: the rustle of leaves in Carmel Valley, the distant sound of the Pacific, or birds chirping in the morning. When hearing fades, these high-frequency sounds are the first to go, making the world feel "flat" and quiet. We want to know: What is your favorite sound in nature that you’ve been missing lately? Reconnecting with these sounds is a vital part of staying grounded and happy as we age.

DID YOU KNOW: Inner-Ear Health Matters for Balance AND Hearing. This is a fact that surprises many people: Untreated hearing loss can actually increase your risk of falling! Why? Your inner ear houses both your cochlea (hearing) and your vestibular system (balance). When one area is struggling, it can impact the other. Addressing your hearing health can therefore improve your overall stability and confidence.

👉 Worried about balance or stability? Book a comprehensive balance evaluation with us today. [www.ccaudiology.com]

Treatment Spotlight: Video-Nystagmography (VNG). How do we diagnose balance issues? By looking at your eyes! The "Vestibulo-Ocular Reflex" connects your inner ear to your eye muscles. During VNG testing, you wear specialized goggles that track your eye movements while we perform gentle tasks. This data tells us exactly which part of your balance system is underperforming. It’s a non-invasive, high-tech way to get to the bottom of your dizziness. If you’ve been feeling "off," this diagnostic tool is the first step toward feeling steady again.

FACT: It could be "Ear Crystals." Not all dizziness is caused by an infection or a virus. A very common cause of vertigo is BPPV, which happens when tiny calcium carbonate "crystals" in your inner ear shift into the wrong canal. This creates a false sense of spinning when you tilt your head or roll over in bed. The good news? An audiologist can often fix this in a single office visit using specialized maneuvers to move the crystals back where they belong. Don't wait for an infection to clear up if the problem is actually a mechanical "tilt" in your inner ear!

☕ That morning grind is loud enough to cause damage! 🚨 Your Ears at the Coffee Shop: The constant sounds of coffee grinders, blenders, and steaming milk are consistent sources of noise. Baristas, in particular, are exposed to this damaging noise day after day. The Tip for Students/Remote Workers: If you're studying or working, look for a quieter spot in the shop, or use noise-canceling headphones.

The Tip for Baristas/Owners: Wearing discreet, professional earplugs can prevent long-term damage from repeated, close-range exposure to loud equipment.

Did You Know? Your balance depends on three things: your eyes, your inner ears, and your sense of touch (feet). When it’s dark, your brain relies even more heavily on your ears to tell it which way is up. This is why people with vestibular (inner ear) issues often feel much more dizzy or unsteady at night or in a dark hallway. If you find yourself "wall-walking" at night, it’s a sign that your inner ear needs a professional evaluation. We can help train your brain to compensate and keep you safe 24/7.

Service Spotlight: Speech-in-Noise (SIN) Testing. Standard hearing tests tell us the quietest sound you can hear, but they don't tell us how you function in the real world. That’s why we utilize Speech-in-Noise testing. We simulate a crowded environment to see exactly how well your brain can extract a voice from background chatter. This is the "gold standard" for determining why you might struggle at family dinners or restaurants. By testing how you hear in "chaos," we can provide a much more accurate prescription for your hearing solutions.

FACT: It’s common, but not "normal."

We often hear patients say, "Well, I’m 70, I’m supposed to lose my hearing." While age-related hearing loss is common, it should never be ignored as "normal." Just like we wear glasses for our eyes or take medicine for our hearts, treating hearing loss is essential medical care. Leaving it untreated is linked to a higher risk of depression and social isolation. Seeing an audiologist ensures you aren't just "accepting" a lower quality of life. We are here to help you maintain your independence and your vibrant social life for years to come.

💇 The noisy truth about your relaxing salon trip. 🚨 Your Ears in the Hair Salon: Hair dryers, clippers, and even constant background chatter can create a surprisingly high and continuous noise level. Your ears are working hard during that "relaxing" appointment! The Tip for Stylists: If you work in the industry, daily exposure to these tools is a major risk. Wearing discreet hearing protection can save your hearing from years of cumulative damage. The Tip for Clients: Don't hesitate to ask your stylist to turn down the music!

Did You Know? The inner ear is extremely sensitive to blood flow. In fact, many audiologists and cardiologists believe the ear may be a "window" to the heart. Because the tiny hair cells in the cochlea require a constant supply of oxygenated blood, hearing loss can sometimes be an early warning sign of cardiovascular issues or high blood pressure. This is why professional audiological monitoring is a key part of your annual wellness routine. We don't just look at your ears; we look at the big picture of your health.
