🤝 Our Careers in Aging Month spotlight continues with Matthew Doucet, a Certified Nursing Assistant at Columbiana Health and Rehabilitation who joined the long-term care profession in 2025 with a desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of seniors.

He says the most rewarding part of his role is building trust with residents.

“I enjoy the sense of security I can provide residents. Building that trust takes consistent presence and respectful, attentive care — and that’s something I take great pride in."

Mr. Woodham, a Vietnam War veteran, greets passing drivers who often respond with a friendly honk of their horn. In return, he proudly waves Old Glory — a simple but meaningful exchange that reflects his enduring patriotism and appreciation for the freedoms he served to protect.

🤝As our Careers in Aging Month series continues, we’re proud to spotlight Diane Gatlin, an administrator at Crowne Healthcare of Thomasville, who has dedicated nearly 48 years to serving residents, families, and staff in long-term care.

For her, a good day at work is often filled with small but joyful experiences — planting flowers with residents who love gardening, playing dominos, or bringing residents hot wings during the Super Bowl just because they asked for them. She also treasures the relationships she has built with her coworkers, many of whom she says feel like family.

“Don’t do it because it’s a job,” she says. “Do it because it’s a ministry.”

Administrators play a vital role in ensuring quality care for residents while supporting the teams who make it all possible.

We encourage our members to share stories and photos recognizing your long term care administrator and the difference they make in your community. Be sure to tag us so we can help celebrate their work!

🎓 75 Stories of Care 🎓

As part of ANHA’s 75 Stories of Care, Arbor Lake Health & Rehab in Auburn shared a story that reflects the power of opportunity, mentorship, and long-term commitment in skilled nursing.

Shonta Philpot began her journey at Arbor Lake in 2015 as a CNA. Over the years, she advanced into Medical Records, became one of the first participants in Alabama’s Medication Assistant Certified (MAC) program, and in 2025 was accepted into nursing school at Central Alabama Community College.

Today, she is serving as a Nursing Apprentice while continuing her education — a full-circle moment that speaks to both her dedication and the supportive environment around her.

🤝 As part of National Careers in Aging Month, ANHA is proud to highlight dedicated professionals across Alabama who make a difference in long-term care every day. We begin this year's monthlong series by recognizing Linda, a Restorative CNA at South Hampton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

With 25 years as a CNA — and 13 years serving at South Hampton — Linda is dedicated to helping residents remain as independent as possible while brightening their days in even the smallest ways. She originally planned to pursue nursing school but chose to remain a CNA because she simply loves the work.

Thank you, Linda, for your compassion, teamwork, and steady commitment to Alabama’s long-term care residents. 💙
