The APA Board at its meeting in February will appoint a pharmacist to serve on the Medicaid Advisory Committee. The MAC is comprised of representatives from various provider groups and meets quarterly in Montgomery. If you are a community pharmacist whose practice site currently accepts Medicaid and are interested in serving in this role, please email LJones@aparx.org by Feb. 12.

We’ve told you about pharmacy tech Gail Lueker’s search for a kidney donor. So we are extremely happy to share the news they shared this week. Get Gail a Kidney, on behalf of your pharmacy family, we are continuing to pray for you and your recovery.

UPDATE: Gail GOT a Kidney!!!!!

We received the call late Wednesday night that they’d found a potential match, and by the next morning we were getting prepped for surgery. Since then, we’ve been monitoring her vitals and she is recovering smoothly! We have a long road ahead of us as we adjust to this new reality, but we couldn’t be more thrilled with the expert team here at Vanderbilt Health, we couldn’t be in better hands.

Thank you to everyone that’s followed our journey up to this point, and especially to all those who have gotten tested to become a Living Kidney Donor. Your generosity is incredible and we’re so thankful to have such a strong community around us.

APhA recently released their Profession Wide Award Recipients and two individuals from Alabama made the list.

Congratulations to Tom Butler and Valerie Prince. We are so proud of you for these well deserved honors!

Tom Butler will receive the 2026 Hubert H. Humphrey Award, and Valerie Prince will receive the Gloria Niemeyer Francke Leadership Mentor Award. These will be presented at the upcoming APhA Annual Meeting in Los Angeles, California in March.
