Your Smile Has a Lot to Say… Make Sure Smoking Isn’t Part of the Story.

No Smoking Day is a great reminder that quitting to***co isn’t just good for your lungs — it’s one of the best things you can do for your oral health.

Smoking and to***co use can:
• Increase your risk of gum disease
• Cause tooth discoloration and persistent bad breath
• Slow healing after dental procedures
• Increase your risk of oral cancer
• Contribute to bone loss and tooth loss

The good news? It’s never too late to quit. Even small steps toward reducing to***co use can have a powerful impact on your health and your smile.

If you have questions about how smoking affects your oral health, the team at Declaration Dental is here to help guide you toward healthier choices.

What veneers can fix:

🦷 Stains that whitening won’t remove
🦷 Chipped or worn teeth
🦷 Small gaps between teeth
🦷 Uneven or misshapen teeth
🦷 Minor crowding or overlapping
🦷 Teeth that look too small or short
🦷 Old, mismatched bonding

Visit 1: Design & preparation — we plan your ideal smile and take impressions
Visit 2: Placement — your custom veneers are bonded and your new smile is revealed

No braces. No months of whitening. Just a natural, brighter, balanced smile.

**Fun Fact Friday 🪥**

Just getting over a cold, flu, or sore throat?
Don’t forget your toothbrush!

Bacteria and viruses can linger in the bristles… and using the same brush afterward can re-introduce germs right back into your mouth 🤢

After any illness:
• Toss the old brush
• Start fresh
• Protect your recovery

It’s one of the easiest ways to avoid getting sick again — and your immune system will thank you!

We believe dentistry should be:
✔ Comfortable
✔ Honest
✔ Educational
✔ Never rushed
✔ Focused on long-term health, not quick patches

You deserve to know your options, ask questions, and feel confident in every decision about your care.

Sugar itself isn’t the real villain… it’s the **frequency** 🍭

Every time you snack on sweets, bacteria in your mouth throw a party and produce acid for about **20–30 minutes**.
So sipping soda or grazing on candy all afternoon = your teeth are basically under constant acid attack.

Here’s how to protect your smile:

🦷 Keep sugary foods to mealtimes whenever possible
🦷 Avoid frequent snacking and sipping sweet drinks
🦷 Drink water after treats to rinse acids away
🦷 Brush about 30 minutes later (gives enamel time to reharden)

Fewer sugar exposures = fewer cavities.
It’s not about never enjoying treats… it’s about giving your teeth time to recover.

🦷 **Fun Fact Friday! — When do teeth actually show up?**

Babies don’t come with teeth… but they definitely come with a *schedule* 😄
Most kids follow a pretty predictable eruption timeline:

**Typical baby tooth arrival times**
• 6–10 months — Bottom front teeth (first little nibblers!)
• 8–12 months — Top front teeth
• 9–16 months — Teeth next to the front teeth
• 13–19 months — First molars (hello, chewing!)
• 16–23 months — Canines (the pointy ones 🐯)
• 23–33 months — Second molars

👉 By about **age 3**, most children have all **20 primary teeth**

**So when should the first dental visit happen?**
The rule is simple: **First tooth OR first birthday — whichever comes first.**

Early visits help us:
• Check growth and spacing
• Catch cavities early
• Discuss thumb habits & pacifiers
• Guide parents on brushing and nutrition

Think of it less like a treatment visit and more like a “parent coaching session” that keeps future appointments easy and stress-free 👍

Healthy starts create confident smiles for life 😄

**SEO-Friendly YouTube Title:**
After-Hours Dental Emergencies — What To Do & When To Call Us | Declaration Dental

🦷 **Dental emergencies never check your schedule first.**
Toothaches don’t care if it’s midnight… and broken teeth definitely love weekends 😅

So what should you do if something happens after hours?

**Step 1 — Don’t panic**
Most dental emergencies can be stabilized at home until we can see you.

**Step 2 — Know the situation**

**Toothache**
• Rinse with warm salt water
• Take ibuprofen (if medically safe for you)
• Avoid chewing on that side

**Broken tooth**
• Save the piece if possible
• Keep the area clean
• Avoid cold/hot foods

**Knocked-out tooth (this one is urgent!)**
• Pick it up by the crown — NOT the root
• Gently rinse (don’t scrub)
• Place back in socket OR keep in milk 🥛
• Call us immediately — time matters ⏱️

**Swelling**
• Use a cold compress
• If swelling affects breathing or swallowing → go to ER immediately

💡 The goal overnight is protection and comfort.
The goal the next day is saving the tooth.

If you’re ever unsure — call anyway. We’d always rather talk you through it than have you suffer all night.

Chewing gum can actually be good for your teeth — as long as it’s **sugar-free** 😉

After you eat, the bacteria in your mouth start producing acids that weaken enamel and lead to cavities.
Here’s where gum helps:

🦷 **Stimulates saliva flow** — saliva is your mouth’s natural defense system
🦷 **Neutralizes acids** before they damage enamel
🦷 **Rinses away food particles** that bacteria feed on
🦷 **Provides minerals** that help strengthen teeth

Even better: many sugar-free gums contain **xylitol**, which bacteria can’t use as fuel — meaning fewer cavity-causing microbes.

Think of it as a mini mouth rinse when you don’t have a toothbrush nearby.

Chewing sugar-free gum for about 20 minutes after meals can significantly reduce your risk of cavities — but it never replaces brushing and flossing!

🦷 **Fun Fact Friday!**

Your teeth are as unique as fingerprints — even identical twins have different dental patterns!
But they’re also designed as a *team*, with each type of tooth doing a specific job:

• **Incisors** – the flat front teeth that cut and bite food 🍎
• **Canines** – the pointed teeth that tear (your natural “steak knives”) 🥩
• **Premolars** – the transition teeth that crush and shred
• **Molars** – the heavy grinders that do the real chewing work 🌽

Because everyone’s spacing, shape, wear patterns, and bite are different, your smile truly becomes your personal signature over time.

That’s why preserving natural teeth is so important — nothing works quite like the originals 😊

❤️ **February is American Heart Month — and your gums matter more than you think.**

Gum disease isn’t just a mouth problem.
It’s a chronic bacterial infection that can enter the bloodstream and trigger inflammation throughout the body.

Research has linked periodontal disease to:
• Heart disease & heart attacks
• Stroke
• Worsening diabetes
• Pregnancy complications

When your gums bleed, swell, or stay infected, your immune system is constantly fighting — and your heart feels that stress too.

Healthy gums = a healthier body 🦷❤️

Regular professional cleanings help remove bacteria below the gumline where brushing and flossing can’t reach.

💙 February 17th is Random Acts of Kindness Day — and today feels like the perfect reminder that small moments matter.

A warm smile.
Holding the door for someone.
A kind word when someone needs it most.

Sometimes the simplest gestures make the biggest difference.

Here at Declaration Dental, kindness is at the heart of everything we do — from calming nervous patients, to celebrating healthy smiles, to treating every person who walks through our doors like family.

Today, we encourage you to spread a little kindness:

✨ Compliment a stranger
✨ Call someone you’ve been meaning to check on
✨ Pay it forward in line
✨ Or simply share your smile with the world

You never know who might need it.

And if you’ve been putting off your own dental care, consider this your gentle reminder — taking care of yourself is an act of kindness too. 💙
