Our Story

The Arc Sullivan-Orange Counties is a not-for-profit agency that was formed as a result of the merge between SullivanArc, founded in 1949 and The Arc of Orange County, founded in 1954 by a small group of parents and family members of developmentally disabled people. From this small and dedicated group of advocates, we have become a leader in the field of providing services to those in need. Families remain our inspiration and guiding force, and comprise a majority of the agency’s Board of Directors and voting members. Today, we serve over 2,000 people with developmental disabilities in several program locations throughout both counties, including schools, residences, day services, clinical services, respite and recreation services. We also provide services in private family homes. The people we serve range in age from infancy to senior citizens. We are major employers in both counties with a combined staff of over 1200 employees. Our partnership with individuals and their families has enabled us to adapt to the changing needs and desires of the people we serve. 70 years of experience has enabled us to become the experts in assessing and responding to those needs and desires, ensuring that all the people we serve experience the full range of human experience and possibility. Explore our web site for information on service options, career opportunities and ways in which you can join us in our mission. Feel free to contact us to find out more about us.
