We have been getting a lot of calls and text messages regarding the EHV-1 outbreak that originated in Texas. As of now, there is only one case in Colorado and is located on the front range. Please visit the website https://www.equinediseasecc.org/news/article/Equine-Herpesvirus-Myeloencephalopathy-(EHM)-Outbreak for the most up to date information. For those of you traveling to Las Vegas for any events during the NFR, please check with the event because there are many new requirements besides a current coggins and CVI. As always, let us know if we can help clarify any information. We are hopeful that this outbreak will get under control quickly by owners of horses that were exposed quarantine themselves for the next few weeks.

The Equine Disease Communication Center is monitoring an outbreak of EHM that originated at the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA) World Finals and Elite Barrel Race event Nov 5-9. To date, officially confirmed cases have been reported in the following states:

Even though it’s getting towards the end of summer, it’s never too late to vaccinate! Every year we get asked, should I vaccinate my horse for West Nile virus? The answer is YES! We see cases every year and this year we have especially seen some awful cases in unvaccinated horses. Horses seem to always be looking for a reason to get hurt or sick, so preventative medicine can go a long way!

We had beautiful weather and a super fun weekend at the Run at the Rose at the Montrose Events Center! We met some new people and got to see some familiar faces from the past few years and as always worked on some amazing horses! Thanks to Taylor Miniat for putting this event on! We always have so much fun sponsoring this event!

Well it’s only taken us a year and a half but we finally got a sign put up! It’s kind of becoming a running joke almost akin to “Where’s Waldo”! But alas here it is and most of you know where to find us at this point and there’s a little more of a marker to look for than the address that’s spray painted on the post at the entry way! We’ve had an amazing year at Horsefly Creek Vet! This winter we added a 3.5 meter endoscope to the practice that allows us to not only view upper airways of horses but also stomachs! So now there no guessing as to if a horse has ulcers or not! We have also added Pro-stride to our portfolio of joint health products. We hope all of you are enjoying your summer!
