Have you ever wondered what an ABA assessment actually looks like? 📝 💬 🔎

An ABA assessment is an important first step in understanding a child’s strengths, needs, communication style, and overall areas of growth. It helps the BCBA create an individualized plan designed to support meaningful progress. 👀💛

Step 1: Getting to know the child
The BCBA begins by gathering background information, speaking with parents or caregivers, and learning more about the child’s routines, strengths, challenges, and goals. This helps create a fuller picture of the child before services begin. 🧩✨

Step 2: Observing skills and interactions
The BCBA will observe and interact with the child to better understand communication, play, social skills, daily living skills, and how the child responds in different situations. Depending on the child’s age and needs, structured assessment tools may also be used. 📋🗣️

Step 3: Looking at behavior more closely
If needed, the BCBA may assess behaviors of concern to better understand what may be influencing them and what the child may be communicating. This helps guide appropriate support strategies. 🎯📊

Step 4: Creating an individualized treatment plan
After the assessment, the BCBA develops a personalized treatment plan with goals and programs based on the child’s needs. These may focus on areas such as communication, social skills, daily living skills, behavior support, and independence. 🛠️🌟

Step 5: Ongoing collaboration and support
ABA assessments are not just a one-time process. The BCBA continues to monitor progress, collaborate with the care team and family, and make updates to programs as needed to best support the child over time. 🤝💙

🌎 Happy Earth Day! 🌱💚

Today is a great opportunity for our kiddos to learn how small actions can help care for our planet! Earth Day activities are a fun way to practice following directions, fine motor skills, turn-taking, and responsibility.

🌱 Simple Earth Day Activities:

Create an Earth collage using green and blue paper
Dot Art Earth - Place blue/green dots inside an Earth outline
Sort items into “recycle” vs. “trash” bins
Plant a Seed - Place soil in a cup and add seeds

These activities help build independence while encouraging environmental awareness in a fun, hands-on way. 💚🌎
