While celebrating his anniversary in St. Croix, RN Chris Carroll, Director of Surgical Services at Holy Cross Hospital – Mountain Point, responded to an urgent call for help. Chris arrived at the beach and saw a distressed woman in the water. Without hesitation, he swam towards the woman. As he reached her, he realized a shark had attacked her.

Chris secured her and began the swim back to shore. Along the way, he kept her engaged and calm, reminding her that help was coming. As they neared the beach, bystanders helped bring her onto the sand, where first responders took over shortly after and began providing emergency care.
