Today, many are talking about the “State of the Union.” 🇺🇸

At Gentle Transitions Hospice, we reflect on the state of something even closer to home — the strength of our families. 🤍

💔🐾 There was a story about a dog abandoned at a Las Vegas airport this week.

Left behind. Confused. Waiting.
Not understanding why the people they trusted didn’t come back.

And it made us think about something we see far too often in healthcare…

Patients who feel abandoned at the most vulnerable time of their lives.

Families told, “There’s nothing more we can do.”
Patients discharged without enough support.
Loved ones overwhelmed and unsure where to turn.

No one should ever feel left behind at the end of life.

At Gentle Transitions Hospice, we step in when others step away.
We don’t disappear when things get hard.
We lean in closer.

💜 When symptoms become overwhelming — we manage them.
💜 When families feel lost — we guide them.
💜 When someone feels alone — we show up.

Hospice is presence.
Hospice is compassion.
Hospice is rescue in a different form.

If you or someone you know feels like they’ve been left without options, call us. We will meet you where you are.

💜 Hospice isn’t about the end.
It’s about the moments that still matter.

It’s:
✨ Ice cream at 8pm because why not
✨ One more story from Dad
✨ Holding hands without rushing
✨ Laughing louder than the diagnosis

At Gentle Transitions Hospice, we see it every day — when comfort replaces chaos, when fear turns into peace, when families get to just be family again.

If you’ve ever experienced hospice, drop a 💜 below in honor of someone who made your life better.

Because love doesn’t stop.
And neither do meaningful moments.

Sometimes comfort doesn’t come from big speeches or complicated plans… sometimes it’s just having someone (or something) by your side when you need it most. 🤎🐒💜

At Gentle Transitions Hospice, we believe comfort can look different for everyone—whether it’s a familiar hand, a favorite blanket, or even a well-loved stuffed friend. 💕

Our job is to make sure no one faces life’s hardest moments alone. Because dignity, comfort, and companionship matter—every single day. 💜🤍

Turning chips and cheese into connection and community 🌮💚

Bill Storey with Gentle Transitions Hospice spent the afternoon building nachos and relationships with the incredible team at Cedar Hill Healthcare Center. Opportunities like this remind us that hospice is about more than care—it’s about presence, partnership, and supporting the people who support our patients every day.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the nacho bar—we loved every minute of it!

💜 Hospice care can make a life-changing difference for patients with advanced Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

Dementia is one of the most common hospice diagnoses, yet many families wait too long to receive the full benefit of comfort-focused care. Hospice provides specialized support when memory loss progresses to physical decline—helping patients remain comfortable, calm, and cared for in familiar surroundings.

At Gentle Transitions Hospice, we focus on dignity, comfort, and supporting both the patient and their loved ones. Earlier hospice support can provide:
✨ Expert symptom management for anxiety, agitation, and physical decline
✨ Guidance and emotional support for families navigating difficult changes
✨ Reduced hospitalizations and medical stress
✨ Compassionate care wherever the patient calls home

Hospice doesn’t mean giving up—it means choosing comfort, dignity, and quality of life during every stage. If your loved one has advanced dementia, it may be time to start the conversation. We’re here to help every step of the way.

Today we had the honor of attending the funeral service of Gloria L. Gonzalez 🤍🕊️ A beautiful soul whose life touched so many hearts. It was a meaningful and emotional gathering filled with love, memories, and the reminder of the lasting impact one person can have on generations 🌹✨

Our very own Sharon Hammond, RN, and Chaplain Rebecca Tong were present to support Gloria’s family, offering comfort, compassion, and continued care during this important time of remembrance 🤍🙏 Their presence reflects the heart of hospice — walking beside families not only in life, but in honoring their loved one’s legacy 🕯️

At Gentle Transitions Hospice, we believe our care does not end at the bedside. We remain a source of support, comfort, and compassion for families every step of the journey 🕊️🤍

We are grateful to have been part of Gloria’s story and honored to continue supporting her loved ones with dignity and love 🌹

Please keep the Gonzalez family in your thoughts and prayers 🙏🤍🕊️

🕊️ 🤍 🌹 🤍

About Us

Gentle Transitions Hospice is a locally and family owned hospice agency in Central Texas. We provide quality end-of-life care for patients and their families. We service a 60-mile radius of Waco-Temple-Killeen, Texas. We provide skilled nursing care, physician oversight, social workers, chaplains, certified nursing assistants, and volunteers for our hospice patients. We are proud to serve our local Veterans as well, as we are contracted with the Department of Veterans Affairs. We are also ACHC Accredited and Medicare Certified.

We Believe in Old-Fashioned Hospice

Gentle Transitions Hospice is a locally and family owned business. The owners are mother and son, Gwenn Dalton and Evan Hessel. Gwenn has been a Hospice Registered Nurse, Director of Nursing, and Administrator in Central Texas for 20+ years and has a true passion for End-of-life Care. Evan has worked in hospice marketing and administration for the past 10 years, though he will always tell you that he grew up in hospice, with a deep respect for it. Gwenn and Evan dreamt that one day they might have their own "Old-fashioned" hospice. What they meant by that is, after both having worked for large hospice companies and corporate entities, they wanted to return to a time when patient care was the #1 priority, as opposed to only being concerned with the bottom line. Gwenn recalls when she first started hospice nursing, saying, "The hours were long and the work was hard, but at the end of the day our patients and staff always felt greatly appreciated." And this is the exact environment that will be encouraged at Gentle Transitions Hospice. We want to treat our staff with love and care, so they pass on that same blessing to every single one of our patients and their families. At Gentle Transitions Hospice everyone is family!
