I’m so sorry to have to take a step away from birth work. The season of life my family is in is just not conducive with my work right now. It breaks my heart, but I also feel at peace with this decision. I’ve loved all the families I’ve served and I hope to be back one day in the future.

There is no filter in the world that could cover up the pure exhaustion on my face after being up for over 24 hours straight. But it also can’t cover up the pride seeing this sweet little ones mom follow her intuition and take control of her birth. ❤️

Those first 24 hours after having a baby can be so beautiful. It can also be overwhelming. Here are some things to expect:

❤️Cramping during nursing sessions
❤️Burning when you p*e for a vaginal birth
❤️ Bleeding even if you have a cesarean birth
❤️Exhaustion

But good news! You may also feel:

❤️Pure love
❤️Happiness
❤️Powerful (for bringing a human into the world)
❤️Many urges to attack the baby with kisses 😉

I got my first dose of the Covid vaccine! I will be fully vaccinated by March 31st. I feel so much better knowing I will be safer to serve my families and their babies. ❤️

Here’s another big reason for my doula work hiatus! It’s been so great spending all my time with my kids, and especially with this little nugget. She’s 18 months now! Can you believe it??

Hi everyone! It’s been a while.
If you haven’t noticed I have been pretty absent in the birth world. I had a lot of stressful and painful things happen this past year and my family needed me completely present. Not to mention we’re in the middle of a global pandemic and I couldn’t be with birthing parents in hospitals. What a rollercoaster! But I’m finally back on my feet and ready to get back to work.

I find myself having to say this A LOT lately. I say it to clients, my kids, my husband, and myself. Working and parenting during a pandemic has been ROUGH. Not being allowed in hospitals to support my clients has been so hard. Choosing to homeschool this year was hard. Seeing people worry about giving birth during a pandemic is hard. Life is just hard.

So, take a minute and take a deep breath. We can do this. ❤️

There’s a reason that black women are 4x more likely to die in childbirth than white women. There’s a reason black babies are dying more than white babies are. There’s a reason that laboring black women aren’t believed when they say they are in pain but white women are coddled. Systemic racism exists and it’s killing people. Enough is enough.
