Rosie Shockey

Rosie Marie Shockey, 67, of Moorefield, WV, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at her residence. Born April 7, 1959, in Cumberland, MD, she was the daughter of Alice Virginia Heavner Delawder of Baker, WV and the late Homer Eugene Sampsell. A sister, Tina Sampsell Turner also preceded her in death.

A proud Moorefield High School graduate, Rosie was not only a fixture in our lives, but also a cherished friend to many. Her warm, inviting smile greeted countless customers at Food Lion, where she brought sunshine into the day of everyone she met. Whether at work or at home, Rosie had an extraordinary talent for making people feel special and valued, and her kindness will remain in our hearts forever.

Rosie's happy place was her beloved river lot—a sanctuary where she found solitude in nature's beauty. She was a passionate member of Harper’s Chapel Church, where her spirit will continue to shine.

For over 40 years, Rosie was the devoted wife and best friend of Gary F. Shockey. A loving mother, she leaves behind two daughters, Jessica Shockey and Brittany Shockey. Rosie is also survived by her mother, Alice Delawder, and two brothers, Robert "Bobby" Sampsell and Darrell Eugene Sampsell.

Her request for cremation has been honored by her family.

Her warmth and infectious spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her. To offer condolences, share memories, or upload photos in honor of Rosie’s extraordinary life, visit her Tribute Wall at www.fraleyfuneralhome.com and celebrate the impact she made on all those around her.

Doug Halterman

It is with both sadness and fond memories that we announce the passing of Douglas Edward Halterman, who left us on February 17, 2026, at the age of 63 in his beloved home in Mt. Lake Park, MD. Doug was born on February 7, 1963, in Annapolis, MD, the son of the late Granville Park Halterman, Sr. and Barbara Ann Westfall Halterman. A brother “Rocky” also preceded him in death.

He will be dearly missed by his sister, Karen Sue Halterman-Brown of Maiden, NC, as well as countless friends and family who cherished his zest for life.

Doug was a true outdoorsman at heart. Whether he was out hunting or casting a line on a peaceful lake, he always found joy in nature’s embrace. And let’s not forget his weekends spent cheering on his favorite NASCAR driver, #48—Doug’s enthusiasm was infectious and brought people together.

In respecting Doug's wishes, he was cremated, fulfilling his request.

To share your memories, send your condolences, or upload photos to honor Doug's extraordinary life, please visit his Tribute Wall at www.fraleyfuneralhome.com. It’s a space for us to all come together and celebrate the joy he brought to our lives.

Hilda Fisher Sherman

Hilda Fisher Sherman, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and dedicated nurse, peacefully left us on February 28, 2026, in Charlottesville, VA from complications related to dementia. Born on November 26, 1948, in Moorefield, WV, Hilda was the daughter of George Eskridge Fisher and Hilda Mae Purtlebaugh Fisher. She always had fond memories of growing up on the family farm alongside her beloved siblings.

Hilda was predeceased by two brothers and one sister, who she always held close in her heart. She is survived by her loving husband and partner of 59 years, Morey Eugene Sherman, their two wonderful sons, Nicholas and Mark Sherman, and her precious grandchildren, Abby and Toby Sherman. Hilda is also survived by her brother, Frederick Fisher, and her sister, Anna Borror.

An outstanding student, Hilda was Valedictorian of her graduating class at Moorefield High School. Her powerful and heartfelt Valedictorian address left a lasting impression on her school principal and classmates alike. Hilda was passionate about education, fostering a love for reading in her children that remains with them to this day. After her boys started elementary school, she pursued her dreams by enrolling in nursing school, where she became a compassionate and dedicated Registered Nurse.

A devoted member of the United Methodist Church, Hilda took her commitment to her faith seriously and often stepped into leadership roles, inspiring the next generation through teaching Sunday School.

Family and friends will be received after 11:00 AM, Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington Street. Afterwards, family and friends will gather to honor Hilda’s life at 12:30 PM for a graveside service at Olivet Cemetery.
