Megan’s Dad used this question throughout her childhood—especially when something felt overwhelming, upsetting, or didn’t go as planned.
It wasn’t meant to dismiss feelings.
It was meant to create perspective.
Some moments do matter deeply and deserve our full attention and care.
Others feel enormous in the moment, but soften with time.
In therapy, we often explore this balance:
Honoring what hurts now
While gently widening the lens beyond the present moment
If everything feels urgent, heavy, or impossible today, this question can be a pause—not a judgment.
And if the answer is “Yes, this will matter”—that’s okay too.
That’s often where healing begins.
