Meet Anna, our Intervention Coordinator and Supervisor based out of the Crookston, MN Victim Advocacy Program Office. Anna has been part of CHSI for nearly 17 years. She started as an advocate during her first five years with CHSI, later took a role with Polk County while continuing to serve as an on-call advocate, and returned four years ago as the Intervention Supervisor. We are so glad she is here!

Anna wears many hats and is always ready to help anyone who walks through our doors. She works with safety plans, orders of protection, and direct client assistance for survivors in crisis due to domestic violence.

Anna’s favorite part of her work is interacting with the patients we serve and seeing someone come in during a crisis and leave feeling more stable and supported. She is inspired by the impact CHSI has on the community and everyone we serve.

When Anna is not working, she enjoys spending time with her five grandchildren, attending their sports and music events. She says her cup overflows from being so blessed to live close to her family.

Type 2 diabetes in kids is most often diagnosed during the teen years. Parents can play a big role in prevention by creating healthy habits together as a family.

Even small changes—like cutting back screen time—can help. Research shows kids snack more when watching TV compared to other activities, even ones that aren’t active. Set a new normal as a family—healthy changes become habits more easily when everyone does them together.

SNAP UPDATE ‼️

DCYF will issue full November SNAP and MFIP payments to our EBT vendor tonight, Friday Nov. 7.

All households currently approved to receive SNAP and MFIP in November will receive full benefits. Minnesotans will begin to see benefits on their EBT card as early as tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 8. Some households may receive payments earlier than usual.

DCYF is taking these steps to protect Minnesotans during this period of uncertainty around future court decisions.

For our first edition of Who We Are Wednesday, we are excited to introduce Belinda, one of our long-time team members whose journey with CHSI began in March 2008. She started as a Community Health Specialist, later served as a Front Desk and Bilingual Health Outreach Worker, and eventually became our IT Analyst Manager. Along the way she even took on double roles as IT Manager and Grafton Site Manager.

Belinda is a self-taught leader and learner, always finding ways to grow and support her team. Having grown up in the community, she loves seeing how CHSI positively impacts the area she has called home her whole life and says the mission is what powers her through every day.

When she is not keeping things running behind the scenes, Belinda enjoys spending time with her family and attending her three children’s sports events.

Update on November SNAP and MFIP food benefits:

Based on a federal court ruling on October 31, the State of Minnesota expects to provide at least partial SNAP and MFIP food benefits in November.

The funds have not yet been released, and the exact amount available is still unknown. However, state agencies have been preparing so that benefits can be distributed to families as quickly as possible once funding is confirmed. SNAP November benefits remain on hold by the federal government until further notice or order by the courts.

Last week, our CHSI team across all locations wore purple in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Through our Victim Advocacy Program, we are proud to support survivors year-round by providing compassion, resources, and a safe space for healing.
