Today we honor the progress made — and the work still ahead.
📊 Where we are now:
• Around 40.8 million people worldwide are living with HIV.
• 31.6 million are on life-saving treatment (ART) — about 77% of all people with HIV.
• Since 2010, new infections have dropped ~40%, and AIDS-related deaths have dropped ~54%.
What’s changed medically:
• Modern ART helps people live long, healthy lives.
• When HIV is undetectable, it’s untransmittable.
• New long-acting injections make prevention and treatment easier than ever.
Testing matters. Knowing your status early opens the door to timely treatment, protects your health, and helps prevent transmission. Regular testing saves lives.
