“You guys don’t have Christmas Eve off?”
No.
And that’s totally OK.
As Occupational Therapists, we are healthcare workers first. Children and families don’t pause their needs because it’s a holiday, and development doesn’t wait for a perfect calendar.
For many of the families we serve, consistency is the care. Routine is regulation. Showing up—even when others are off—can make a meaningful difference in a child’s progress and a parent’s peace of mind.
That doesn’t mean burnout is acceptable. It means our work is essential, and we choose to honor that responsibility with intention, boundaries, and pride.
We rest when we can, we support each other, We cover sessions for each other let each other enjoy their time with their valued family, and we continue to advocate for sustainable systems—but we also recognize the privilege of being trusted during life’s most vulnerable moments.
So no, we don’t always get Christmas Eve off.
And yes, we are proud of the work we do.
To every OT and healthcare professional showing up when it matters most—your work is seen, valued, and impactful. 💙
