Human milk is the only biologically active food on the planet.
It contains living cells, stem cells, immunoglobulins, lysozymes, lactoferrin, HMOs, hormones, cytokines, enzymes, microRNA, antimicrobials, antivirals, and over 1,000 molecular components that scientists are still discovering.

Every single feed triggers a biochemical feedback loop:
your baby’s saliva signals your mammary glands, your glands adjust the concentration of antibodies, and the composition of your milk shifts within minutes to meet that exact need.

When you're a doula and your 2nd grandbaby arrives, there are no nights off🥰
I am so thrilled to be able to support my son and daughter in law for the birth and postpartum of their 1st baby.

Meet Jimothy Isaac... I am so in love 😍

(And yes, I have been known to vacuum at a clients home for day support😊

There are so many unknowns. There appears to be a gate around the pool which is required, but was it locked? Was the group outside without enough supervision?
This is heartbreaking for everyone involved 😢

Now is a good time to remind you that, its not enough to have these safety measures in place, fence, gate, cover, door alarms.
If you have a pool or your child will be around one, I highly suggest you INVEST in their safety!
I say invest because it can be costly.
Basic swim lessons are not enough for babies.

5 days postpartum and mom has collected this with Haakka at each feed!.
I'm super impressed but Only because some moms struggle to get even drops, this is not to make anyone feel bad in any way. Yes unfortunately some moms will have to leave their babies earlier than they would like and want to be able to have milk on hand for them especially with the formula issues of late.

To be clear mom was just using the haaka to collect what was leaking while nursing. We discussed the oversupply concern and have started using the ladybug collection cups. And this milk was fed/or stored to baby properly within recommended timeline.

I just watched this... A powerful documentary on the tragic truth behind the deaths of black women during birth and postpartum.

One of the biggest reason for complications is the occurrence of C-section delivery. While c-section's are an important tool that can be very necessary, the truth is, Doctors push them more often as they are easier for THEM,, they are cheaper for the hospital (for planned surgery,, rather than hours or days in labor and staff attending to moms) AND insurance pays out more for c-section-----win for Dr and hospital. But a c-section is MAJOR surgery involving risks! It should be a LAST resort, not a first option. There are other reasons, that can and do affect non-black women as well, but not nearly the same amount.
Having a midwife and doula and delivering at home or a birthing center believe it or not can be safer ESPECIALLY for black women.
I highly suggest watching this film and educating yourself on the subject.
And see what we can do to help change these statistics 🙏
