Congratulations to our most recent DAISY Award winner, Dara Melker, RN!

Her nomination states: "In the early morning hours, a new mother and her infant were discharged after receiving care in the emergency department. The young mother remained in the waiting room unable to secure transportation home. Exhausted and clearly struggling, she went to the restroom to warm her baby’s bottle in the sink. Dara recognized the mother’s difficult situation and acted with compassion and initiative. Without hesitation, she invited the mother and baby back into the emergency department and found an empty room where they could rest safely and privately. She personally retrieved a basinet from labor and delivery and warmed the baby’s bottle for the mother. She insured both mother and baby were comfortable and cared for, allowing them to rest until the morning when transportation became available. Her actions went far beyond her clinical responsibilities. Her kindness, empathy, and commitment to patient centered care exemplify the values of nursing and the DAISY Award."

Thank you Dara, for reminding us how powerful kindness can be!

Congratulations to our most recent PETALS Award winner, Jonathan Mazzola, CNA!

His nomination reads: "I met Jonathan the first time right after my mom’s surgery and he was such a sweetheart. My mom only survives these tough situations with laughter, and Jonathan jumped right in with laughter and joking. He was a breath of fresh air given the seriousness of my mom’s infection. He listened to the unfortunate story of my hot water heater busting at home, and brought me things to take a shower with and told me that I didn’t have to explain anything, to just enjoy a warm shower. In that moment that meant a lot to me that he was so empathetic to my whole situation."

Thank you Jonathan, for going above and beyond in compassionate care!
