Research shows that psychotherapy, when done well, changes neurological patterns and promotes true healing. We believe that treatment needs to take into consideration the whole person: physical, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual. Research also shows that to make lasting changes, people need to practice new behaviors often. How are we different from other practices?
1. Assessment: Rather than a quick screening, every client gets a thorough evaluation including an interview and psychological testing to clarify what unique strengths and challenges they have and to plan an individualized treatment.
2. Evidence based, collaborative treatment: Treatment plans are multifaceted. Our therapists collaborate with each other to address all aspects of the client’s needs. For example, we may have one therapist providing individualized evidence based individual therapy for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, while another conducts a marital workshop the client attends to address the impact of these problems on her marriage. Still another therapist provides daily skills coaching including relaxation and mindfulness training. We may also refer the client for research based treatments like massage, yoga, nutritional counseling, or other complimentary therapies. Therapists communicate with each other regularly, monitor clients’ progress, and modify the plan as needed. In addition to treatment for the usual types of problems such as depression and bipolar disorder, Panic Disorder, phobias, OCD, PTSD, and ADHD, we also host groups, clinics and trainings on a variety of topics which impact client’s lives: grief, parenting, marital issues, emotional eating, smoking cessation, compulsive behaviors, chronic pain, meditation, etc.
3. Emphasis on training and supervision: We see it as our responsibility to provide other therapists with training and supervision to improve the quality of services at other agencies for our community. We train train interns and provide supervision and consultation for other therapists.
