WVU researchers are advancing the future of space health! Valeriya Gritsenko, Associate Professor in the Division of Physical Therapy, is co-leading a study using her expertise in human movement to develop AI‑powered “digital twin” models that help astronauts stay healthy on long-duration space missions. By tracking and optimizing muscle activity and movement in microgravity, this innovative work could help future crews maintain strength, coordination, and overall health during extended stays on the Moon, Mars, and beyond🚀

A study led by Valeriya Gritsenko and Sergiy Yakovenko responds to the growing likelihood that astronauts will be spending longer periods in microgravity environments like space stations, the moon or rocket ships bound for Mars.
