It can be easy to underestimate the power of breathing because it is something that we automatically do all the time without thinking. Taking a moment and being intentional with our breathing can assist with tapping into our nervous system. More specifically, tools such as box breathing can assist with activating the parasympathetic nervous system that promotes "rest and digest". Box breathing is one example of many exercises that can reduce stress, improve mood, and increase overall well-being.
Next time you find yourself feeling overwhelmed, give box breathing a try. You can look at or visualize a box to follow along, or for added grounding in the moment, print it off or find something that is square in shape and use your finger to trace along as you are breathing.
