Postpartum forever.

Not a day goes by that I don’t think about their journey picking me as their mother.

Not a day goes by where I don’t think about their births.

The separation in a hospital birth setting, the absolute oneness in a home birth.

Why was I the way I was when I birthed them? Why’d they choose to come this way?

These are questions I ask myself everyday.

What I’ve come to know in my very own bones, is the birth experience doesn’t end after a baby is born. It spirals, continues, unfolds..

Birth comes back up in the challenges that motherhood brings. It comes up in our children’s unique personalities. It comes up in our connection with everyone we love. It imprints our hearts and DNA, showing itself in the fiercest of ways.

I believe there is no right or wrong way to birth, it’s simply a choice, an agreement. One that we may make with our babies in the spirit world, before God guides them to the womb.

But it stays with us forever.

We are infinite souls having a human experience. How deep this all goes.. only God truly knows. 🙏🏼

Seasons of patience offer many magical gifts.

It takes patience to allow the body to conceive, nourish a growing baby, go into labor naturally and right on time. The gifts may be finding peace within patience, gathering strength to move through discomfort, plenty of time for birth and postpartum education to receive the support you deserve, deepening intuitive and spiritual relationships with God, your baby, your partner. 9-10 months is a generous amount of time to explore all there is to receive 🙏🏽

What can we do during a season of patience when it gets hard? It is simple, but may be easier said than done. Some ingredients may be to..

❃ Trust every step of the way, including the obstacles and detours of our minds and physical lives.

❃ Stay open and curious when these things arise. What if it’s all working itself out for your unique, divine path? It is!

❃ Have deep faith in God’s perfect plan for your life.

I often wonder what I can lean into and learn about myself during these times. Being a baby student of midwifery, I understand God’s miracles must come together in order to lead me on this path. Focusing on Him and all he does in my life on a daily basis has that clear ♥️

My family and I just went to Ireland and I gratefully experienced many inspirations on our trip. This art in the dining room being one of them 💚🇮🇪

Prenatal Love; the heart of Traditional Midwifery.

One of the reasons I am drawn to traditional midwifery is to preserve the woman to woman connection that is totally lost in our modern maternal healthcare system.

To me, there is nothing more awe-inspiring than witnessing a pregnant mama fully in her body, and so ready for the mystery of birth.

Pictured: Thank you dearly for allowing us to honor you this weekend 🙏🏼 It was such a privilege to palpate your belly, measure fundal height and listen to your growing baby and
placenta! You are an absolute glowing goddess 💛✨ In the second photo, I am listening to the ocean whooshing of Amanda's placenta, and can also hear her heartbeat 🫶 The fetoscope is an amazing tool as you can truly get a sense of the placement of placenta, cord and baby's positioning.

📸 Key, thank you so much for capturing this beautiful day for us all! This was the first time I have ever done this. Your shots are GORGEOUS, my friend! ♥️

“Your breast milk continues to change to meet the nutritional needs of your growing child. It provides crucial immunities, enzymes and vitamins that your child may not get from solid foods, ensuring he or she is as healthy as possible. Breast milk can also be a cure-all for many bugs your child may catch, especially if he or she is sharing germs with other kids at daycare or on play dates.”

The benefits of breast-feeding beyond infancy for a child include:

✨Balanced nutrition. Breast milk is considered the gold standard for infant nutrition. There's no known age at which breast milk is considered to become nutritionally insignificant for a child.

✨Boosted immunity. As long as you breast-feed, the cells, hormones and antibodies in your breast milk will continue to bolster your child's immune system.

The benefits of breast-feeding beyond infancy for a mother include:

✨Reduced risk of certain illnesses. Breast-feeding for 12 months or more cumulatively in life has been shown to reduce the risk of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes.

“Breast milk continues to provide substantial amounts of key nutrients well beyond the first year of life, especially protein, fat, and most vitamins.”
— Dewey 2001

Studies done in rural Bangladesh have shown that breastmilk continues to be an important source of vitamin A in the second and third year of life.
— Persson 1998

“Human milk in the second year postpartum contained significantly higher concentrations of total protein, lactoferrin, lysozyme and Immunoglobulin A, than milk bank samples, and significantly lower concentrations of zinc, calcium, iron and oligosaccharides.”
— Perrin 2016

Breastfeeding toddlers between the ages of one and three have been found to have fewer illnesses, illnesses of shorter duration, and lower mortality rates (Mølbak 1994, van den Bogaard 1991, Gulick 1986).

A couple of studies have shown a positive relationship between longer breastfeeding duration and social development.
