There have been a lot of changes since the creation of this page for Desert Lily and I am here to tell you about some of them but I am also here with new news! I am starting a Podcast named The Theme of the Week! As a therapist, I find that each week there tends to be a theme and so we dig our heels in, meaning my patients and me. I specialize in working with Trauma survivors and I find myself wanting to reach more people but not sure how as you can only see so many people without the threat of burn out which is happening to therapists at an alarming rate. That's a discussion for another time.
I am going to start by just sharing each day maybe a couple of times a day some thoughts that are shared with me by patients, and or other therapists each week and the theme that they derived from.
I am looking forward to hearing how you reflect on the things that are shared. If you are a survivor of trauma, I will define Trauma in one of the first posts, then I hope this page is a help to you.
Sincerely, Katherine

The first Theme of the week. People Pleaser:
I hear this all the time, I please others to the extent I harm myself. How is this related to Trauma? When you grow up and or even live for a time as an adult where your environment is not safe, emotionally, physically, and or sexually, you can become hypervigilant and learn how to " Read the room." That way you can stay ahead of the threat and try to placate the abuser while making your situation safer. You may feel exhausted, burned out, and disconnected. You can ask yourself, am I trying to help this other person out of fear, or a genuine desire to help? Do I have enough in my container to help without sacrificing my physical and or mental health? Trauma has a way of distorting many areas of our lives, and you won't ever completely heal but you will gradually take back your life and live it with a new compassion and understanding of how trauma affected you.

Sincerely, Katherine
