Ironwood is not just about schoolwork, chores and therapeutic support...there is also ample time for healthy, old fashioned, teenage fun.
We now have modest snow cover on campus and there is likely much more of the white stuff to come. The hill in front of our Beaver Pond is perfect for sledding...and...whatever it is that this young man is riding on! This week, many shared how fun it was to spend the holiday with such a large group of peers and staff. Not at all a substitute for being with family, but a time to make the very best of new relationships and lives that are getting stronger each day.

Ironwood is all about the hard work in trying to reconnect teens with their family members. In every case, Ironwood presents opportunities to change up prior family system patterns that were either unsafe, or not working in the home…and these patterns are not necessarily one-sided. Those who can remain open to change and those who are capable of being accountable for their actions typically do very well in this process. While those who remain stubborn and quick to blame remain victims of their situations.
Currently, we are pleased to be working with some great kids and their family members who are committed to the process of life change within the family. We are spending quality time together, sharing ideas and experiences and we are remaining open to address the past constructively, so that wounds may heal and life may improve. Yes, this experience is hard and so is everything that becomes extraordinary. We are grateful for the opportunity to work with so many individuals who are committed to positive change. Onward together, to a better world ahead.
Oh and PS, this picture is our version of Where’s Waldo…Where’s Phoebe?! 😊

We are honored to share this original song from a current Farmhouse resident who has so much potential to make our world a better place.
These lyrics represent the fragile needs that exist within all of us and further, the family transitional growth that we hope to see for all Ironwood residents and family members. “Trust”, “Time”, “Change”, “Family”, “Not Alone”, “Love”, “Listen”. Nate offers up his appeal for hope, openness and the desire for better, more inclusive days ahead.
When we contemplated sharing this song, we spoke to this resident and his parents specifically to seek permission AND to discuss the protection of their privacy. This resident and his parents OK’d the share, but both would have none of this discussion around privacy. This resident is proud of his accomplishments and wants the world to hear his voice. His parents share his pride and they are grateful for their Ironwood family experience, giving us full freedom to share this song in any way that might help their son and others.
