Our residents on the mountain were greeted by a friendly visitor this morning. One of the great gifts of camp life is being surrounded by the beauty and quiet wonder of creation—nestled on Petit Jean Mountain, overlooking the Arkansas River and the Ada Valley. Moments like these remind us just how sacred this place truly is.

This past fall, we welcomed Christ the King Catholic Ministry from LSU for their retreat at Camp Mitchell. During their stay, they experienced the beauty of Petit Jean Mountain and gathered for worship and fellowship in our Chapel of the Transfiguration. Their weekend included exploring the mountain, horseback riding at nearby Barnyard Friends and Stables, kayaking on Petit Jean State Park Lake with Arkansas State Park kayaks, and enjoying meals prepared by our chef in Keller Hall.

The mountain rests in a rare hush today, softened by the snow flurries that swept through last night. Zoltan and his wife, Lynne, shared photos from their early walk as they made their way across the main campus, checking in on all that calls this place home. We’re deeply grateful for Zoltan, our steadfast caretaker of the mountain, and for Lynne, whose warmth welcomes guests and guides them through its beauty. If you’re dreaming of hosting an event here, Lynne would be happy to arrange a tour for you or your group.

Spring AYE 2026
All 6th through 12th grade youth from across the diocese are invited to join us for this Spring’s Arkansas Youth Event (AYE) at Camp Mitchell, March 6th-8th!

AYE is a weekend retreat for youth designed by our incredible Diocesan Youth Leadership Council. AYE brings youth together from across the diocese for a weekend full of faith, fun, and connection. It’s a space to build friendships, explore big questions, and experience God’s love in community.

This year’s retreat theme is “Rooted In Faith, Grounded By Love!” based off of 1 Corinthians 16:13-14We are all called to stand strong and courageous, letting God’s love guide every step and action we take and at this year’s AYE, we’ll explore how to face challenges with courage, and grow into the people God calls us to be!

Be sure you’re registered by February 16 to be guaranteed an AYE t-shirt! Cost for the weekend is $135 and scholarships available!

Getting ready for our next hike to raise money for Camp Mitchell scholarships! Parishioner Diane Johnston is going with me this time. We had our first training yesterday. 3.4 miles of up and down in windy conditions! Can't wait to be back on the Path and raising money for camp. Stay tuned for more updates!

Happy New Year!

New year. Same mountain.
Big camp energy.

We’re kicking off the year at Camp Mitchell grateful for our community and very excited about what’s ahead. If last year taught us anything, it’s that things are better with campfires, the mountain, and people who become family.

To celebrate the new year:
Early bird registration is OPEN!
It will remain open until January 31st!

We believe every kid should come to camp no matter what. We have scholarship options available to any who may need. We want to see you on the mountain no matter what! Come play!

To another year of campfires, s’mores, laughter, and the kind of community that keeps us coming back!

Whether you’ve been around the fire for years or this is your “first s’more,” we can’t wait to welcome you.

To our families, friends, campers, volunteers, and community of Camp Mitchell, you made this year possible.

Together we:
🔥 Lit countless campfires (and successfully put them out… eventually)
🍫 Made 400+ s’mores ! Some perfectly toasted, some very… creative
🌲 Shared stories under the stars and in our bunks
😂 Laughed hard, sang loudly, and maybe lost a few socks along the way...
❤️ Engaged in a whole lot of joy, belonging, and holy play

The mountain is never just a place, it’s the people who show up, care deeply, and make the magic real. Thank you for trusting us with your time, your kids, your energy, and your hearts this year.

We’re saying goodbye to this season with gratitude, tired legs, and full hearts. Here’s to rest, reflection, and dreaming up silly summer plans.
