👁️ Think an online vision test replaces an eye exam? Think again.

According to the American Optometric Association (AOA), online eye tests are not comprehensive eye exams.

Apps and online screenings cannot:
✅ Detect glaucoma
✅ Identify serious infections
✅ Evaluate overall eye health
✅ Catch early signs of diabetes, stroke or hypertension

An in-person comprehensive exam with Dr. Levi Smith at SCMC evaluates much more than a prescription — it protects your long-term health.

There’s no app for that. 🔗 View AOA’s fact sheet: aoa.org

What is dry needling?

Dry needling is a physical therapy technique that uses thin needles to address muscle tightness and pain caused by trigger points performed right at SCMC in the NovaCare Rehabilitation Dept.

It’s not acupuncture — it’s a targeted treatment performed by certified PTs and often combined with exercise and hands-on therapy for best results.

March 8–14 is Patient Safety Awareness Week (PSAW).

At SCMC, our commitment to safe care extends far beyond this week — it’s a year-round priority. PSAW gives us the opportunity to elevate awareness and recognize the important work happening every day.

This year’s theme, “Team Up for Patient Safety,” led by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, highlights the power of collaboration. Every provider, staff member, and patient plays a role in creating a culture of safety.

When we work together, patients are safer.

👁️ March is Save Your Vision Month!

During Save Your Vision Month, consider your eye health needs. The American Optometric Association (AOA) wants you to view your eye health in a whole new lens and is drawing attention to a growing concern: myopia (nearsightedness). This common vision condition now affects nearly 42% of Americans — including 1 in 4 children.

At SCMC, we’re fortunate to have a full-service Eye Clinic and a visiting ophthalmologist. Dr. Levi Smith, our optometrist, provides prescriptions, frames, contact lenses and holistic eye care, while Dr. John Dvorak, ophthalmologist, handles complex eye procedures such as cataract and lasik surgery.
