Happy Birthday to “one special rhino,” Andatu! 🎈
He is the first rhino ever born in captivity in Indonesia and the second rhino ever to sire a calf at the Sumatran Rhino Sanctuary. He is the pride of Indonesia and we are happy to celebrate his birthday with his caretakers at YABI, Yayasan Badak Indonesia.

Good news from the where the last two members of an escaped gang have been re-arrested.

Members of the convicted ‘Chitiyo Gang’ escaped from custody last year, leading to a heightened state of alert for in the Eastern Cape. Sadly 13 rhinos were lost to poaching in the past six months, following years with zero losses.

Hopefully the recapture of this experienced poaching gang will see a positive turnaround in the situation within the province, however this does not mean our protection efforts will slow in anyway. We will continue to be in contact with our partners on the ground to assess how we can best continue to support them.

The gang are due to be sentenced on the 15th of June, with further charges added to their existing convictions, read more about the capture of the last two gang members at the link below ⬇
