“Learning is a process, not an event.” One of the highlights of my role as a clinical supervisor is guiding clinicians through their journeys. In this field, it’s common to experience “imposter syndrome,” where you feel like a fraud or doubt your abilities as a therapist. Working with newly licensed therapists reminds me of the valuable insights I have to offer, while also highlighting how much I can learn from them. My time with this year has illuminated the whirlwind of emotions that come with being a therapist, reinforcing the importance of practicing self-care and not neglecting our needs as human beings.
