🛡️ Flu Prevention Tips for Children
1. Get the Flu Vaccine
• The annual flu shot is the best protection for children 6 months and older.
• It helps reduce the risk of severe illness, hospitalization, and complications.
2. Wash Hands Often
• Use soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after school, playtime, or coughing/sneezing.
• Hand sanitizer is helpful when soap and water aren’t available.
3. Practice Good Cough & Sneeze Etiquette
• Teach children to cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or their elbow.
• Dispose of tissues right away and wash hands.
4. Keep Hands Away From the Face
• Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth, where germs spread easily.
5. Stay Home When Sick
• Keep children home from school or activities if they have fever, cough, sore throat, or body aches.
• They should be fever-free for 24 hours (without medicine) before returning.
6. Clean & Disinfect Frequently Touched Surfaces
• Wipe down toys, doorknobs, phones, tablets, and countertops regularly.
7. Support a Strong Immune System
• Encourage:
• Healthy meals
• Plenty of fluids
• Adequate sleep
• Regular physical activity
8. Avoid Close Contact With Sick Individuals
• Try to limit exposure to anyone who is ill, especially infants and children with chronic conditions.
