This month, weโ€™re honoring the voices, stories, and lived experiences of people impacted by brain injury. As part of our commitment to awareness and education, weโ€™re hosting three community screenings of Who Am I To Stop It - a powerful documentary exploring isolation, creativity, and personal transformation after brain injury.

This film invites us to look beyond assumptions and truly see the resilience, artistry, and humanity of survivors.

Alliance Health has partnered with the Cumberland County, NC Government Detention Center and the Cumberland Health Department to help ensure that individuals with significant behavioral health needs being released from detention have the follow up care they need in place, whether they are members of the Alliance Health Plan or not.

Nationally, similar programs have been shown to significantly improve health outcomes, reduce substance use relapse, and lower recidivism rates among formerly incarcerated individuals.

Alliance Health CEO Rob Robinson notes that growing numbers of people with mental illness and substance use disorders in jail settings in not unique to Cumberland County โ€“ it is a problem with a national scope. โ€œWithout the strong linkage to post-release services like the ones provided by this program, released individuals are at significant risk for re-offense, and those with substance use disorders are at increased risk to for repeated substance misuse and overdose.โ€

Alliance Health has partnered with Promise Resource Network (PRN) and Wake County Government to open the Triangle Recovery Hub in a new location in downtown Raleigh. The Hub is a peer-led place where people in recovery from substance use or mental health challenges can find support, resources, and a real sense of belonging.

Peer support offers significant mental health and recovery benefits by connecting individuals with shared experiences, fostering empathy, and reducing isolation. It provides a supportive, non-judgmental environment that boosts confidence and hope.

The Recovery Hub is conveniently located near bus routes at 310 North Harrington Street, and is open from 8:30am to noon on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, and from 8:30am to 4:00pm on Thursday. A calendar of events for the Hub can be found at https://cstu.io/64ecc1.

Also open at the new location is the Cafรฉ, a welcoming environment where people can commit to community service work and lead "circles" where open discussions are shared as they work together towards recovery over a nutritious meal.

As measles cases continue to rise across our state, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) recommends that families of infants 6-11 months talk with their health care provider about the options of early MMR vaccination. Measles (Rubeola) is a highly contagious, vaccine-preventable disease spread by direct person-to-person contact and through the air.

Honoring another monumental figure during ๐—•๐—น๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ธ ๐—›๐—ถ๐˜€๐˜๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐˜† ๐— ๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜๐—ต: Dr. Joseph L. White, often called โ€œthe father of Black psychology.โ€

His groundbreaking article โ€œToward a Black Psychologyโ€ shifted the field by offering the first strengthsโ€‘based understanding of Black behavior and culture - a powerful counter to deficitโ€‘based narratives that misrepresented Black communities.

Dr. White argued that applying whiteโ€‘centered psychology to Black people created false impressions of inferiority, when the real issue was the use of culturally irrelevant frameworks. He went on to help found the Association of Black Psychologists and the Black Studies program at San Francisco State University in 1968.

His work continues to shape culturally grounded mental health care and the fight for equity.

๐ŸŒ Representation Matters in Healthcare ๐ŸŒ

At Alliance, we know that achieving true health equity starts with access to providers who reflect and understand the communities they serve.

When minority and underserved populations see themselves in their care teams, trust grows, barriers break, and outcomes improve.
