✍️ Many of you have asked about the venerable monk who was injured earlier in our journey. Your concern touches us deeply, and we want to share his story—a story of sacrifice, courage, and unwavering dedication to peace.
Who is Venerable Maha Dam Phommasan?
Venerable Maha Dam Phommasan is the abbot of Wat Lao Buddha Khanti in Snellville, Georgia. He joined the Walk for Peace as we approached Houston, Texas, walking alongside the other venerable monks, his heart fully dedicated to this mission of peace.
The Accident and His Sacred Offering
On November 19, 2025, we were involved in a serious accident. Venerable Maha Dam sustained injuries to his leg—so severe that it had to be amputated.
But here is what moves us: he has not only accepted this loss—he has transformed it into something sacred. He views the loss of his limb as an offering to the cause of peace.
After the accident, he remained in Houston for a month for treatment before returning to his temple in Snellville to heal—no longer able to walk this physical journey with us, but never separated from us in spirit.
The Reunion
On Day 67 (December 31, 2025), the Walk for Peace finally reached Wat Lao Buddha Khanti—Venerable Maha Dam’s home. After so many miles and months apart, Venerable Bhikkhu Paññākāra and the other monks were reunited with their beloved brother monk. When Bhikkhu Paññākāra knelt down and embraced Maha Dam, there was only love, only gratitude, only the profound relief of being together again.
His Spirit Walks with Us
Though Venerable Maha Dam can no longer walk with us physically, his spirit, his prayers, and his unwavering love for peace walk with us in every single step we take.
Thank you everyone for asking about him. Thank you for holding him in your thoughts and prayers.
May you and all beings be well, happy and at peace. 🙏💛✨
