Speaker Spotlight:
Guenter Klose MLD/CDT Certified Instructor, CLT-LANA

As most lymphedema therapists know, Guenter is the Founder of Klose Training & Consulting. He received his initial Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) and Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT) training in 1984 at the Foeldi Clinic in Germany, where he continued working as an instructor.

Since 1990, when he came to the US, Guenter has been instrumental in establishing the field of lymphedema therapy and training. He assisted in opening numerous lymphedema treatment centers on the East Coast, and in 2003, Guenter established Klose Training. Guenter has facilitated the training of hundreds of lymphedema therapists from across the country and abroad.

Guenter will be presenting on DECEMBER 6th at our virtual Networking & Educational Workshop for Lymphedema Therapists. His topic is somewhat controversial:

"MLD Update: Is MLD Becoming Obsolete?"

Speaker Spotlight: Jay Granzow, MD

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Granzow will be presenting at our OCT. 4, 2025 online workshop. He is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and is also Board Certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery

In the field of reconstructive plastic surgery, Dr. Granzow specializes in breast cancer reconstruction and lymphedema, incorporating aesthetic principles with advanced microsurgical techniques to achieve the best results for his patients. Dr. Granzow is a pioneer in lymphedema surgery, creating the first integrated and comprehensive lymphedema treatment system to provide the highest level of care for lymphedema patients.

He publishes highly regarded scientific articles in leading medical journals and is also a frequent speaker at international conferences such as the Fat Disorders Research Society (FDRS) Conference, National Lymphedema Network (NLN) Conference, Klose Conference, World Congress of Lymphology (WCOL) Conference, the Canadian Lymphedema Framework (CLF) Conference, and the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery (ASRM) Conference. He collaborates closely with physicians and specialists in the United States and abroad to support needed research in these fields. He also engages with the patient community to generate and raise awareness to further the understanding of these diseases.

Speaker Spotlight: Karen Ashforth
MS, OTR/L, CLT-LANA

Karen has been a consultant and supporter of Lymphedema Seminars for many years. She has been an occupational therapist for over 40 years and nearly half of that has been spent specializing in lymphedema and lipedema treatment. She is a researcher and educator and has given presentations at conferences all over the world. In addition, she teaches in the doctoral physical therapy program at the University of the Pacific. As a board-certified lymphedema therapist, she has a hospital-based part-time outpatient clinical practice in Stockton, California, and sees patients from all over the United States. This past year she has decreased her clinical work so she could expand her private telehealth treatment and consultation practice for all types of patients, including breast cancer, lipedema and lymphedema, and general wellness. She holds a master’s degree in energy medicine and loves to weave eastern and western medicine together in all that she does.

Karen will be presenting on OCTOBER 4 at our virtual Networking & Educational Workshop for Lymphedema Therapists. Her topic (along with Dr. Karen Herbst) is: "Management Strategies for Lipedema." She and Dr. Herbst will also participate in our panel discussion at the end of the day along with Dr. Jay Granzow, comparing the viewpoint presented by Guenter Klose. So DO NOT miss it!!! Jane Armer asked us to post this request for lymphedema therapists:

The University of Wisconsin- La Crosse Occupational Therapy program is conducting a research study in collaboration with the American Lymphedema Framework Project. This anonymous survey includes topics related to lymphedema and your experience with treating this condition. Additionally, the survey will ask a few questions related to the new Lymphedema Treatment Act that went into effect in January 2024.

The answers you provide will be used for research purposes only. The survey should take 20-30 minutes to complete. The survey will be available from November 11th, 2024 to February 3rd, 2025.

Your information will be very helpful in developing better ways to provide lymphedema-related services to patients.
