Good Shepherd Clinic

Good Shepherd Clinic Good Shepherd Clinic provides free primary care services to uninsured residents of Clayton County, GA with limited financial resources.

Dr. Thomas Kelley and Rev. Dr. Jimmy Lewis came together with a vision that all Clayton County residents should have access to quality medical care without consideration for their ability to pay. In September of 2000 the Good Shepherd Clinic was born, with Dr. Kelly providing simple acute medical care one evening a week. In the 21 years since its opening, the Clinic has been able to grow to provide free medical care to thousands of Clayton County residents. Good Shepherd Clinic is now open three days a week, staffed primarily by medical and administrative volunteers, and has the capacity to see upwards of 3000 patient encounters per year. In addition to acute care, the clinic now primarily acts as a healthcare home to its many patients providing ongoing healthcare for chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, and COPD. In addition to medical care, Good Shepherd Clinic provides an array of Health Education classes, and works to provide patients with prescription assistance.

Our clinic, part of the Georgia Charitable Care Network, is now part of a statewide “Compassion Heals” marketing campaign! With branding on billboards (you might even recognize one of the faces 😉), radio ads, and digital marketing, we are working to raise awareness about the need to bridge a critical gap in healthcare for the more than 1.2 million Georgians who lack health insurance.

The GCCN’s network of free and charitable clinics restores dignity, compassion, and fairness to the healthcare experience by treating every patient as a person of worth. Help our clinic thrive by donating today - urbanclinic.org/donate.

The Urban Clinic of Atlanta is deeply honored to announce that our organization has been awarded a 2026 grant in the amount of $100,000 from Georgia Baptist Health Care Ministry Foundation (GBHCMF). As a key supporter of free and charitable clinics throughout the state, GBHCMF plays a vital role in ensuring accessible healthcare for those in need. We are incredibly grateful for this generous contribution!

We are thrilled to be offering nutrition education classes at our Good Shepherd location!

A huge thank you to Arnav Katikaneni, Georgia Tech student and volunteer, for leading this effort. With the support of the GT EduCare club and our dedicated providers, the first class was successfully held today!

We are excited to see the positive impact these classes will have on our patients and look forward to many more sessions ahead.

Across Georgia, more than 1.2 million people live without health insurance. For them, getting sick can mean choosing between care and groceries—or going without care entirely. The Urban Clinic of Atlanta and Good Shepherd Clinic, part of the Georgia Charitable Care Network, provides healthcare with compassion, dignity, and impact. Our clinic locations provide free high-quality care for uninsured patients at an average cost of less than $10 per patient encounter, just 8% of the cost of an average Medicaid visit.

A busy Friday in Morrow and Atlanta! The first Market Day at Good Shepherd of the year was a success—thank you to Nickey Gregory Company for the generous produce donation and to all of our amazing volunteers, including the group from iTHINK Financial.

We also hosted our first mobile dental clinic of 2026! A huge thank you to Christ Covenant for hosting us, and to the Baptist Mission Mobile Ministry team, Dr. Brittany Hoover, Dr. Eric Anderson, and Dr. Megan Davidson for their incredible service. We were also excited to have students from Emory’s pre-dental oral healthcare service-based club join us as dental assistants.
