Our Memory Care residents visited the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in downtown Richmond for an afternoon of history and music! While the architecture of this Virginia Historic Landmark (consecrated back in 1906) is stunning, the highlight was the sound.

The organist played for the group, filling the space with breathtaking music that seemed to hold everyone's attention. Such a moving experience right in the center of our city! ⛪✨

The shelves in our resident store are fully stocked, thanks to the neighbors in our own backyard!

The Woolridge Landing Community Service Project stopped by with a generous donation of brand-new items to keep our inventory fresh. This store is a central part of our daily rhythm here: residents earn "Watercrest bucks" by staying active, hitting an exercise class, playing Bingo, or winning at trivia and then use those earnings to shop!

It is a system that rewards engagement, and having our neighbors pitch in makes the reward even sweeter. Thank you for thinking of us! 🛍️🤝

This Thanksgiving, our gratitude is grounded in a standard of excellence and a lot of local flavor!

Earning a deficiency-free rating from the Virginia Department of Social Services was a tremendous professional milestone, confirming the quality of care we work so hard to provide. But a perfect score on paper doesn't capture the heart of this building. The real joy of 2025 was found in the community partners who kept us fueled, like the excitement of seeing Travelin' Tom's Coffee of Middle pull up or the familiar, savory scent of MISSION BBQ filling the dining room.

We balanced that professional excellence with serious fun, from the hunt at our Easter Egg Extravaganza to the festive energy of Oktoberfest! Whether we were sharing "Whimsical Moments" or pausing for a Veterans Day tribute, this year proved that Watercrest Richmond is a place where high standards and good times go hand in hand.

Thank you for a delicious and successful year so far! 💜☕🍖

Twenty-three move-ins later... it's time to celebrate Patty! 🎉

As a Resident Ambassador, she has helped welcome two dozen new neighbors to Watercrest Richmond. To say thank you, we let her set the agenda. Patty picked the Brick House Diner for the location and invited Allan and Jennifer to share the meal.

We wearing our purple to show support for the fight to , but the afternoon was definitely shared with recognizing the passion Patty puts into every introduction. 💜🍽️

“I chose Kindness as my core value because genuine compassion and empathy create the foundation for meaningful care. Kindness goes beyond meeting physical needs; it nurtures dignity, respect, and emotional well-being.”

Mary McCormick at Watercrest Richmond embraces her core value Kindness, each day, sharing: “By leading with kindness, I ensure every senior feels valued, heard, and understood.”

Her director adds, “Mary was chosen for Servant Leader of the Month because she consistently leads with compassion, humility, and a genuine commitment to serving others. She goes above and beyond to support all residents, ensuring their needs are met with patience, respect, and heartfelt kindness. Mary leads by example, always willing to lend a hand, listen with empathy, and encourage the team to treat every individual with dignity and care.”

Purple filled the halls of Watercrest Richmond this November as our community proudly wore the color of hope for those affected by Alzheimer’s. Behind every purple shirt is a story: a spouse, a parent, even a neighbor we walk alongside every day. We stand with our residents and their loved ones- not just this month, but all year, honoring their memories with dignity and the level of care this journey deserves! 💜🕯️

Our Memory Care neighborhood spent a day at the Virginia War Memorial with guide Jim Kisicki. He led us through the new exhibit, “Virginia’s Missing in Action,” then out to the memorial wall honoring nearly 10,000 Virginians who gave their lives in World War II, with names from the Korean War added later. Our group also saw a stone salvaged from the west wall of the Pentagon damaged on 9/11 and closed in the theater with a documentary featuring veterans from WWII to the present. It was a day of stories and learning together. Thank you again, Jim! 🇺🇸🎖️

turned into a disco at Watercrest Richmond! Affinity Care of Virginia hosted a whimsical afternoon with a build-your-own sundae bar and plenty of dancing, and afterward our Memory Care neighbors painted ice-cream sun catchers for their windows: a sweet keepsake from a sweet day! 🍨🪩🎨

We set aside time on to honor our veterans right here at Watercrest Richmond!

Keith opened with the Veteran's Open Prayer, followed by patriotic music from Mike and Cheryl Layton. Thank you to Kevin Estes of Suncrest Hospice - Richmond for leading our pinning ceremony, and after readings of “Military Spouse” and “In Flander's Fields,” Kevin also honored spouses with a poppy pin.

We closed with a visit to MISSION BBQ where our WWII U.S. Navy veteran J.R. Reid and his son, Dean Reid, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, were welcomed as Guests of Honor. After lunch, Kevin and Jennifer visited those off-site to ensure everyone was included, pinning veterans across the community, including Alton Spain, WWII U.S. Army! We are very grateful to Suncrest Hospice and Mission BBQ for standing with us, and our deepest thanks goes to every veteran and spouse we recognized. 🇺🇸🎖️
