October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time devoted to educating everyone about breast cancer and the importance of early detection and timely, high-quality care.

About one in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. No matter who you are or where you live, breast cancer may touch your life. We invite you to dedicate this October as a time of action, both for yourself and others.

The most common tests to detect breast cancer are screening mammograms and clinical breast exams. Screening tests are used to find breast cancer in people with no warning signs or symptoms.

Flu season is quickly approaching!

Who Should Receive the Flu Vaccine? The CDC recommends that everyone 6 months and older should receive a yearly flu vaccine.

Yearly vaccinations are especially important for people who are at increased risk for developing complications from the flu, including, but not limited to, adults 65 years or older and individuals having the medical conditions listed below:

Asthma and/or chronic lung disease
Endocrine disorders including diabetes mellitus
Heart disease
Kidney and liver disorders
Weakened immune system due to disease, medical treatments, or other factors
Pregnant women, including up to 2 weeks after the end of pregnancy

August is National Immunization Awareness Month to highlight the importance of vaccination for people of all ages. Family Care Center wants to encourage you to talk to a healthcare provider about getting up to date on your immunizations.

Family Care Center, the office of Kendra Gardner, Nurse Practitioner, will be closed Tuesday, January 21, 2025, due to inclement weather. We have contacted patients to reschedule appointments. Please call 228-285-0361 during office hours (9am - 2pm) for inquiries. Our office staff will be available to take your calls, answers questions, and medication refills. Family Care Center, LLC participated in the City of Moss Point Annual Senior Citizens Thanksgiving Luncheon. Mayor Knight won our door prize, a bottle of red wine. Thanks to everyone who coordinated and sponsored a wonderful event!

Breast cancer is more treatable and curable, but women of color remain at higher risk for fatal outcomes following a breast cancer diagnosis.
