Colquitt Regional's Maternal Infant Unit recently held a "Shoulder Dystocia Escape Room" followed by a newborn code simulation. A shoulder dystocia escape room is a hands-on, team-based simulation where MIU staff “race against the clock” to safely resolve a simulated shoulder dystocia using correct clinical steps - guided by the HELPERR mnemonic, which is taught through the ALSO (Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics) Program.

Immediately following the resolution of the shoulder dystocia, MIU staff had the opportunity to participate in a newborn code simulation following NRP guidelines. NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) is the standardized, evidence-based training program used worldwide to teach healthcare providers how to stabilize and resuscitate newborns at birth.

Both of these simulations required staff to use critical thinking, effective communication, and teamwork. Mindy Spencer, RNC-NIC, BSN, Neonatal Outreach Educator, and Ashton Petersen, BSN, RNC-OB, RNC-MNN, C-EFM, Maternal Outreach Coordinator, both from Phoebe Putney Memorial Health, were onsite to assist with this valuable interactive learning opportunity.

We’re proud to share that Sterling Group Psychiatry has expanded behavioral health services with the addition of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)! This FDA-approved, non-invasive treatment offers new hope for individuals living with major depressive disorder who haven’t found relief with medication or cannot tolerate side effects.

TMS is an outpatient therapy that uses targeted magnetic pulses to help stimulate areas of the brain involved in mood regulation without anesthesia or sedation. Treatments are delivered over a series of sessions and typically involve minimal side effects.

This addition reflects Colquitt Regional’s continued commitment to expanding access to advanced, compassionate mental health care close to home!
