He graduated from Trinity School of Medicine and during his third and fourth year clinical rotations in Warner Robins, he developed a desire to remain in Georgia and continue his training in a rural setting!

When asked "Why Georgia South Family Medicine?" He shared, “Georgia South stood out as one of the best rural residency programs I found! The supportive environment and strong faculty made it an easy choice.”

Dr. Green selected family medicine for its broad scope of training, which aligns with his long-term goal of pursuing a sports medicine fellowship. He is particularly interested in sports medicine, pediatrics and caring for injured athletes with a comprehensive, whole-person approach.

Dr. Dylan Patel, a PGY-1 Resident here at Georgia South Family Medicine, shares insight on asthma ⬇️

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐭?
Asthma is a long-term condition that affects the airways, the small tubes that carry air in and out of the lungs. When these airways get irritated, they swell and tighten, making it harder to breathe.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐬?
-Wheezing
-Coughing
-Chest tightness
-Shortness of breath

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐬?
-Heavy pollen seasons
-Exercise
-Cigarette smoke
-Colds
-Frequent coughing at night or early in the morning

𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤?
-Premature infants
-Children with allergies
-Those with a family history
-Adults who smoke or who are regularly around secondhand smoke

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐟𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐞-𝐮𝐩 𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐤?
These occur when the airways become even more swollen and filled with mucus, making breathing much more difficult. Signs that an attack is getting serious include:

-Fast breathing
-Struggling to speak in full sentences
-Chest or stomach pulling in with each breath
-A child appearing unusually tired or panicked

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐈 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐭?
-Prescribed medications
-Avoiding triggers
-Early treatment

Meet Dr. Allyson Pel!

We’re excited to spotlight Dr. Pel, one of our residents at Georgia South Family Medicine! She completed her undergraduate studies at Davidson College, earned a graduate degree from Wake Forest University, and attended medical school at PCOM–Georgia before choosing Moultrie for her residency training. With a heart for rural medicine and a connection to PCOM’s South Georgia campus, Georgia South felt like the perfect place to continue her journey!

Her passion for healthcare began at a young age, inspired by watching her grandmother face frequent illness and wanting to better understand disease while caring for others during vulnerable moments. She says the strong sense of community and supportive culture at Georgia South made her decision easy! Dr. Pel especially loves the hands-on training and mentorship she receives, which supports her strong interest in procedures and comprehensive patient care. Family medicine allows her to care for patients of all ages, bringing variety, purpose, and connection to every day!
