Black Maternal Health Week is a time to raise awareness, uplift voices, and commit to better outcomes for every mother and baby🤰🏽👶🏾🤱🏿

In the United States, black women are more than 2-3 times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women. The maternal mortality rate is around 50 deaths per 100,000 births for black women, compared to about 14 per 100,000 for white women. Even more concerning, black women account for nearly 40% of maternal deaths nationwide.

The reality is that over 80% of pregnancy-related deaths are preventable. These statistics highlight the importance of early, consistent, and compassionate care throughout pregnancy and beyond!

Vaccines might not be your child’s favorite part of a checkup… but they’re one of the most important!

So what exactly is a vaccine?💉

It’s a way to train your child’s immune system to recognize and fight infections before they ever become serious. Think of it as a head start their body gets to stay protected!

That protection goes a long way. Vaccines help prevent illness, hospitalizations, long term complications, and even death.

These are given most often in the first two years because that’s when kids need the most protection. The typical timeline is at birth, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, 15 months, and 18 months. Then boosters at 4, 11, and 16 years old!

Ever wonder how an orthopedic surgeon actually uses your MRI? 👀

You’ll either come in with one already or your ortho may order it to get a closer look. But here’s the key🔑An MRI is not the whole story.

It helps confirm what is going on and becomes one piece of a bigger puzzle that includes your symptoms, history, and physical exam!

From there, your orthopedic surgeon builds the most reasonable treatment plan, usually starting with conservative options first and only considering surgery when the exam and imaging clearly support it.

MRI is important, but it is just one part of how the full picture comes together 🧩
