“Cheers to a new year with new challenges. The Mount Airy Crossfit family has helped me through one if the hardest years of my life. Before writing this I looked back through my camera roll to find a before and after picture. In doing so I began to realize that a picture would not do justice in showing where I started vs where I am now. My mindset has completely changed. I make time for myself. I have energy to do the things I want to do and I sleep so good at night. On the second day of Crossfit Katlin said to me "I want this to be the best hour of your day". That was the first of many steps MACF has taken to change my mindset on working out. I look forward to the lifts and workouts. Crossfit is an hour of giving and receiving support from others who are also trying to grow themselves physically and mentally. Most of all, I enjoy proving to myself day in and day out that I am strong and
that I can push through it. For me it was never about losing weight. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus and the last month of 2021 let us all remember "life is tough my darling but so are you". Find something you love to do daily that evolves moving. If we're being chased by a bear I personaly don't want to be last. In my eyes it's really that simple. That being said, thank you Katlin and Mount Airy Crossfit for the support and all that you have taught me this year. I look forward to the MACF next chapter. Bring on 2022. ✌”

We are so excited to welcome Baby Breck to the MACF Fam.

No better way to welcome the little one by hitting a 40 minute conditioning piece in his honor.

Everyone gave their all on our conditioning piece, “Built by Breck” and wore his 20 # vest like a champ👏🏻

It’s never too late.

The goal is to increase work capacity. The way we achieve that is by practicing constantly varied functional movements at high intensity. Applying this to an older client is no problem because we use a principle of relative intensity where the stimulus is modified to match current levels of physical and psychological tolerance.

This means that the CrossFit is universally scalable, i.e., anyone can do it, and everyone should do it, especially older adults.

“Since joining Mount Airy CrossFit my fitness has evolved to new levels and my mental toughness has calloused. Every class comes with a new set of challenges that seem to adapt perfectly to suit my fitness needs through intelligent coaching providing the scaled modifications needed to push but do so safely. So far Mount Airy CrossFit has provided me with a constantly changing stimulus and significant physical adaptation has been the result.
This all seems great but also quite daunting if you’ve ever watched any advanced CrossFit athlete ‘get after it’ during a workout. A lot of the moves required are highly skilled and wouldn’t be considered by most. At first, like most who consider joining CrossFit, I was intimidated. This feeling of inadequacy was short-lived. As soon as I met Kaitlin, her husband Damon and her Parents, Keith and Lisa, I felt right at home.
The best part for me is continuing to see the functional strength gains that I never knew were possible while maintaining high energy levels. I have spent years doing what I thought was similar to CrossFit along with running and cycling. After consistently attending MACF for 6 months, my overall fitness is the best it’s ever been. The membership dues are worth their weight in gold when you consider the quality of coaching, community, programming, facilities and amount of classes offered at 3 per day, 5 days a week and a Saturday class!
Speaking of community, members from all classes will routinely cheer you on during those dark moments of pushing hard and trying to finish strong. It’s very encouraging. There’s an endless wealth of knowledge always offered with a positive attitude whenever members have questions or need assistance. I have yet to reach my fitness potential but by continuing my relationship with Mount Airy CrossFit I know this will eventually be achieved full.

Congratulations Casey on finishing 139th out of 1600 people in the Leadville 100!

This is a 100 mile mountain bike race with 10,000 feet of elevation gain. There were some big name world tour pros in his line up and we are so exciting for Casey on his amazing placement!

Make sure you give him a big congratulations on this amazing accomplishment the next time you see him!

I remember my first CrossFit class. As the time limit got closer I was the only one left rowing, and a bunch of strangers were around me cheering me on, as if my struggle meant as much to them as it did to me. On day one I felt like I belonged to something, and those people are now friends of mine. I look forward to every class not just for the accomplishment I feel afterward, but for the time I get to spend with people that continue to encourage me to keep at it.

When I first started, I thought I wouldn't be able to do most of the exercises in the workouts. Everything had a scaled down option that I could do though, and seeing myself gradually move on to harder variations and continually improve has been a great motivator to keep at it. I now run, do box jumps, burpees, pushups, and I'm getting closer to being able to do pull ups. I couldn't do any of this before starting. I'm getting stronger, and I've gone down four shirt sizes.

Katlin is one of the best coaches you could ask for. She has a wealth of knowledge, and I feel like I can come to her with any questions I have. When I doubt myself she pushes me to keep trying. When I push too hard she lets me fail, and then makes sure I know what I did wrong. I was lifting before I started CrossFit, but I just saw myself as an unhealthy guy who was trying to get into shape. She treats me more like an experienced athlete who is struggling because I'm trying new things, and it has helped to give me a more positive self image. I think she cares about us all more than she lets on.

Swipe to see some pictures of Mitches hard work over the past several months. Mitch is by far one of our hardest workers and his dedication to be better and move better is always inspiring to all. We’re so proud of him and happy he is a part of the MACF Fam🙌🏻

SUMMER OF SHRED CYCLE💪🏼🙌🏻

We are heading into the the 1st week of our new cycle, the "Summer of Shred", where we will be having a fun mix of strength training pieces, a greater emphasis on accessories, and fun "Finisher Friday's to get a pump in while going to the weekend.

We will also be now incorporating a Sunday workout that will be centered around structural bodybuilding work as well as odd object and strongman style metcons.

This week we are starting off with our strength focus centered around our clean and thruster complex Monday, our new Back Squat Progression on Wednesday, and then our Deadlift Progression working in on Friday. Our Sunday programming will be centered around a classic push/pull with a fun pump session to finish off our Sunday programming.
