Fatigue, Muscle Pains, and Weight Changes

Vitamin D deficiency is the most common nutritional deficiency in the world. You might become deficient if you don't get enough vitamin D through diet or exposure to sunlight.

Low vitamin D levels can cause muscle weakness, fatigue, hair loss, and other symptoms. Vitamin D affects most body systems and is important to overall health. Even so, you may not notice symptoms.

Your body needs vitamin D to absorb calcium, and calcium is crucial to bone health. Vitamin D is also important to muscles, the nervous system, and the immune system.

When it comes to diet, not many foods contain vitamin D, though many are fortified with it. Some good food sources are:

Cod liver oil
Fatty fish such as trout, salmon, tuna, and mackerel or sardines
Eggs
Beef liver

As the days get shorter and we spend less time outdoors, it's important to be mindful of our vitamin D levels. Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that plays a crucial role in calcium absorption, bone health, and immune function.

Symptoms of low vitamin D can include:

- Fatigue and tiredness
- Bone and muscle pain
- Increased risk of infections
- Mood changes, such as depression

During the winter months, our bodies produce less vitamin D due to reduced sunlight exposure. This can lead to a decline in vitamin D levels, especially for those living in northern latitudes.

To maintain optimal vitamin D levels during the winter, I recommend the following:
- Spend time outdoors: Even on cloudy days, getting some sunlight can help boost vitamin D production. Aim for at least 15-20 minutes of midday sun exposure several times a week.
- Consume vitamin D-rich foods: Include foods like fatty fish (salmon, tuna, mackerel), eggs, and fortified dairy products in your diet.
- Consider a vitamin D supplement: Most humans are vitamin D deficient and especially in the winter, this is something to consider.

If you're experiencing any symptoms of low vitamin D or have concerns about your vitamin D levels, please don't hesitate to schedule an appointment. (https://intakeq.com/booking/x2z8ir?serviceId=50174b39-c6a2-4e5b-8902-84d035b07d93) We can discuss your specific needs and develop a plan to ensure you're getting enough of this essential vitamin.

Why do you feel so tired?

Your adrenals are like little batteries in your body, giving you the energy to tackle the day and keeping you calm under stress. But when they’re running low, you can feel fatigued, anxious, or just plain off.

Common causes of adrenal fatigue include:
- Chronic stress
- Poor diet and nutrient deficiencies
- Lack of sleep and hormone imbalances
- Overuse of caffeine and stimulants
- Infections and toxins
AND SEASONAL STRESSORS!

Supplementation can help. Get back on your B complex and if that isn't enough, hit reply and I will make a recommendation.

Gut Health Tied to Psychological Resilience

Resilience isn’t just mental—it's also linked to your gut. A new study found that resilient people also have healthier gut microbiomes. While lower stress helps the gut, the reverse is also true: a healthy gut boosts mental health. The takeaway? Eating a diverse range of fruit and vegetables can help you endure. Read the study (https://www.nature.com/articles/s44220-024-00266-6?inf_contact_key=1b16ad4663b3af189f0df54b9f40279d16358d5485884e2f31e6019a0d26c8b0) .

GO NUTS

Research shows almonds and hazelnuts contain a high concentration of vitamin E, which can make them especially powerful for your brain health. (Vitamin E, at least in part due to its particular antioxidant activities, has been shown to help prevent or delay cognitive decline in clinical trials.)

Nuts are outstanding for your health and longevity in general, helping to fight chronic inflammation, lower triglycerides, raise "good" HDL cholesterol and lower "bad" LDL cholesterol, reduce risk of heart attack and stroke, and much more.

I will be out of the office Oct 20 to Oct 27th. I have been adding some hours thru the week (https://intakeq.com/booking/x2z8ir) or reply to this email if you need in sooner.

Take a delve into the fascinating research on Akkermansia, a gut bacteria that has shown promising potential in weight loss treatments. Studies highlight that Akkermansia muciniphila may play a crucial role in regulating metabolism and promoting fat loss by enhancing the gut barrier and modulating inflammation. This innovative treatment protocol not only targets weight management but also focuses on overall gut health, which is essential for optimal wellness.

Recent studies have shown that this specific gut bacterium may enhance the effects of GLP-1 medications, leading to improved metabolic outcomes and overall health benefits.

School isn't just about fighting off germs; it's about learning, focusing, and retaining information. The brain is an incredibly complex organ that requires the right fuel to function at its peak. While a nutritious diet is the foundation, specific supplements can provide extra support for cognitive health.

Here are some of my favorite Standard Process recommendations for students of all ages:

Olprima™ DHA (https://askdrstacy.standardprocess.com/products/olprima-dha) : The brain is made up of a high concentration of fatty acids, and DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid) is one of the most important. A high-quality omega-3 supplement like Olprima™ DHA supports general brain health and cognition. It's like giving your brain premium fuel for memory, focus, and overall function.

Neuroplex (https://askdrstacy.standardprocess.com/products/neuroplex) ®: This supplement is a powerhouse for the nervous system and cognitive function. It contains a broad spectrum of vitamins, minerals, and complementary tissues to support the nervous and endocrine systems. Neuroplex® is an excellent source of B vitamins, iron, zinc, and copper, all of which are essential for neurotransmitter formation and cognitive health.

Bacopa Complex (https://askdrstacy.standardprocess.com/products/bacopa-complex) (from MediHerb®): This herbal brain tonic contains Bacopa, Schisandra, and Eleuthero. These herbs are traditionally used to enhance mental clarity, support healthy cognitive function, and ease the effects of temporary stress. This is a great option for students who need a natural boost to their memory and concentration.

By combining these supplements with a balanced diet, proper hydration, and an active lifestyle, you're setting the stage for a school year of academic success and mental clarity.

I know how the back-to-school season can put a strain on the whole family. From early mornings to new routines and an increased exposure to germs, it's a critical time to support your body's natural defenses and cognitive function. A healthy body and a healthy mind go hand-in-hand.

I'm a strong believer in a whole-food approach to wellness, and my preferred supplement recommendations are from Standard Process, a company that shares this philosophy. Their products are made with ingredients from their own certified organic farms, ensuring you get the highest quality, nutrient-dense supplements.

Building a Strong Immune System for Back to School

The moment your child walks into the classroom, they're exposed to a whole new world of bacteria, viruses, and other germs. While a strong immune system is our best defense, the stress of a new routine, late nights doing homework, and a less-than-perfect diet can weaken it.

In my practice, I often recommend a few key Standard Process supplements to help families stay ahead of the curve.

For Daily Immune Support:

Immuplex (https://askdrstacy.standardprocess.com/products/immuplex) ®: This is a fantastic daily multivitamin designed to support a healthy immune system. It's packed with essential micronutrients, minerals, and specialized protein extracts. Taking Immuplex® daily can help maintain normal white blood cell activity and support the body's normal inflammatory response.

SP Children's® Immune (https://askdrstacy.standardprocess.com/products/sp-childrens-immune) : For our younger students, this is a delicious, chewable option that delivers key nutrients like Vitamin C, D, and zinc, all of which are vital for a functioning immune system. It also contains prebiotic 2'-FL and bovine colostrum to support a healthy gut, which is where a large part of our immune system resides.

Oh and let's not forget (https://askdrstacy.standardprocess.com/products/feline-immune-system-support) our furry friends (https://askdrstacy.standardprocess.com/products/canine-immune-system-support) .

For Targeted Immune Response:

Congaplex (https://askdrstacy.standardprocess.com/products/congaplex) ®: This is your go-to supplement when you or your child starts feeling under the weather. It's designed for short-term, targeted immune support. Congaplex® helps support the thymus gland and provides whole food-based ingredients, including a combination of key nutrients from Cataplex® A-C, Thymex®, and Calcium Lactate®. It's available in both capsules and a chewable version, making it a great option to keep on hand for the first sign of a cold.

Calcium Lactate (https://askdrstacy.standardprocess.com/products/calcium-lactate) : Calcium is crucial for a healthy immune response, and a fever is often a sign of low tissue calcium. Keeping Calcium Lactate on hand is an excellent strategy, as it can be used to help the body bring down a fever naturally by providing the necessary mineral support.

Beyond supplements, remember the basics: a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, consistent sleep, and regular chiropractic adjustments to ensure your nervous system is functioning optimally. A healthy nervous system is the conductor of your body's orchestra, and when it's in tune, all other systems, including your immune system, can perform their best.

08/29/2025

For the first time since 2017, the American Heart Association (AHA) and the American College of Cardiology recently updated their guidelines to help people with high blood pressure lower their numbers.

Nearly half of U.S. adults have high blood pressure, the top preventable risk factor for heart disease, stroke, heart attack, heart failure, kidney disease, and even dementia.

What Is Normal Blood Pressure by Age?

Systolic pressure: This is the top number in a blood pressure reading and measures the pressure in your arteries when your heart beats.

Diastolic pressure: This is the bottom number in a blood pressure reading and measures the pressure in your arteries between each heartbeat.

Vitamins for High Blood Pressure

Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) (https://askdrstacy.standardprocess.com/products/cataplex-b2) has shown to be preventative in cardiovascular disease as well as its risk factors. Some food sources are: organ meat, mushrooms, leafy green veggies, eggs, dairy products, almonds, legumes, and squash. Here (https://askdrstacy.standardprocess.com/products/cataplex-b2) is a great option for a supplement.

Taking Vitamin B6 (https://askdrstacy.standardprocess.com/products/cataplex-b2) has shown a 34% to 48% lower risk of developing heart disease in multiple studies. Some food sources are: fish, leafy greens, root veggies, bananas, chickpeas, red meat, poultry, sunflower and pumpkin seeds.

Vitamin C (https://askdrstacy.standardprocess.com/products/cataplex-c) has been linked to reduced risk of cardiovascular diseases by up to 40%. The highest food sources: citrus fruits, kiwi, berries, red peppers, guava, papaya, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, tomatoes, cantaloupe, and leafy greens. Here (https://askdrstacy.standardprocess.com/products/cataplex-c) is my favorite vitamin C supplement.
