🎀 The Purpose
Red Ribbon Week promotes living a drug-free, healthy, and positive lifestyle.
It encourages young people — and the adults who support them — to make safe choices and to stand up against drug misuse, bullying, and violence.
🧩 How It Started
The campaign began in 1985 after the death of DEA agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, who was killed in the line of duty while fighting against drug trafficking.
In his honor, communities started wearing red ribbons as a symbol of commitment to a drug-free life, which grew into a nationwide movement supported by schools, organizations, and families.
