Waterman Village extends a huge thank you to team member Janine Lester, for her 36 years of service to Waterman Village and its residents. Waterman Village was founded in 1989 as an outreach of Waterman Hospital Tavares. Throughout her tenure, Janine has been a steady and reliable member of our team, consistently supporting our residents and contributing to the quality of life that Waterman Village strives to provide.
Her professionalism, commitment, and long-term dedication have made a meaningful difference across the community. As Janine begins her well-earned retirement, we thank her for her years of service and wish her all the best in this next chapter.

Have you wondered why a 1970s City Christmas bell decoration adorns a telephone poll on Clayton Street and Third Avenue? The story goes back 52 years ...

Melanie Mae Wise was a young girl who suffered from epilepsy from the age of one year old. She loved to drive with her parents, Fred and June Wise, around town to look at the Christmas decorations. When she could no longer do that, in 1973, Art Womble, Mount Dora Utilities Director, decided to hang the decoration on the utility pole outside her home for her to enjoy. For the past 52 years, city employees have continued the tradition of hanging the decoration even though Melanie Mae died in 1977 and her parents no longer live there. Today it's an uplifting reminder of the big heart our small town has always had.
