The Sheetz Reception Center known as “The Wallick-O’Connor House”, built in 1838 by the Wallick family, was constructed in the Greek revival design and featured three floors and 4 bedrooms. In 1976, the late Dr. Thomas and Mary Ellen O’Connor added the fireplace and sunroom, now used as the main entrance. The Reception Center has been a long anticipated business vision of the Sheetz Family. They are pleased to present this venue to our community in honor of their parents Mary H. Reich Sheetz and the late Gerald R. Sheetz, a proud WWII 1st Marine Division veteran, history enthusiast, and a student of Mount Joy history.

SLOW DOWN AND USE HELP 🚶‍♀️

It’s not uncommon to feel a little unsteady and lightheaded immediately after standing up. Practice standing up slowly, and take a moment to get your bearings, so you don’t fall when you start to move.

It’s also advisable to use a walker or a cane when walking. Doing so gives you some support when moving, especially if walking outdoors. You can also talk to your physical therapist about the ideal device for you to use when walking and how to use it.

More than three-quarters of U.S. adults age 50 and older want to stay in their current homes for as long as possible, according to AARP’s 2021 “Home and Community Preferences Survey.” But a May 2020 study by the U.S. Census Bureau found that less than 10 percent of U.S. homes are "aging-ready," meaning they have a step-free entryway, a first-floor bathroom and bedroom, and at least one bathroom accessibility feature, such as a grab bar or shower seat.

Wearing high heels, slip-on backless shoes, or loose-fitting shoes increases your likelihood of falling. For instance, high heels force you to shorten your stride and heighten your chances of tripping.

Thankfully, this is one of the more manageable problems to fix. Simply opt for low heel, rubber-soled, and non-skid shoes. You can also go for lace-up shoes that have non-skid soles.
