If you look at menstruation as something dirty. As something to be hidden. As something to be ashamed of.⁣

It will be hard to honor yourself and your body through the cycles and changes that are pregnancy, birth and postpartum.⁣

For centuries women met together during their monthly flow. Cherished the meaning of womanhood and the ability to carry another life.⁣

Men revered women for the ability to tap in to the innate rhythms of nature with their moon cycle. ⁣

But somewhere we became disconnected. ⁣

We forgot about the beauty and power of the female body. ⁣

Let’s remember together. Let’s honor our cycles, even those that have passed. Let’s celebrate a young woman’s coming of age and explain the privilege of bleeding and carrying life force energy.⁣

Postpartum preparation shouldn’t be about preparing a nursery you will barely use.⁣

Or inviting people over immediately after baby is born.⁣

It should focus on the care of mother so she can be her best for baby. ⁣

Me talking about finding deep friendships! Not just surface level.

To me, surface-level friendship is the standard. Friends you meet up with for a glass of wine to vent about your daily life.

Birth can be a family event. ⁣

Birth can be a time to show your older children the miracle of life.⁣

To remove the stigma around women’s bodies and their abilities to birth. ⁣

To show them the strength and power of the Mama. ⁣

To remind them how amazing their own bodies are (male or female). ⁣

Natural experiences such as birth have become taboo from conditioning via family, friends, media, etc⁣

We can make these experiences normal for our children. ⁣

Learn more about how I am connecting with my boys on a regular basis!

I used to think connection with my children came naturally. The same way it did when I first looked into their eyes at birth.

Pregnancy is a sacred process.⁣

One in which you and your baby bond & connect.⁣

One in which you must learn to trust your body, your baby & your instincts.⁣

One in which you connect with nature to allow your body to do what it was born to do.⁣

Birth is not a competition.⁣

A birth is not better or worse than another, it is just different.⁣

Tapping back into the sacredness of pregnancy & birth will allow you to make the decisions that are right for you & your baby.⁣

You have officially hit the half-way mark of your pregnancy!⁣

20 weeks!⁣

We are again focusing on protein intake this week as baby continues muscle growth & development.⁣

Although known to be less healthy than its white meat partner chicken, lean cuts of pork can provide vital nutrients.⁣

Choosing lean pork tenderloin is your best bet for added protein without the cholesterol.⁣

A 4oz serving of pork contains heme-iron, protein, and B vitamins.⁣

Pork can be served plain as the main protein or jazzed up a bit with a jalapeno-pineapple salsa.⁣

Ingredients⁣

4oz Pork Tenderloin (1 serving)⁣
½ Pineapple diced⁣
1 Tomato diced⁣
½ Red Onion⁣
½ Jalapeno⁣
1 Tbsp chopped Cilantro⁣
1 Lime juiced⁣
Salt & Pepper to taste⁣

Cook pork to a minimum temperature of 165F. Combine remaining ingredients in a bowl and mix generously. Allow salsa to sit for 10-15 minutes before serving to allow flavors to mix. Top cooked pork tenderloin with salsa & enjoy!⁣

Hypnobirthing Changed My Life

When I was pregnant with my first son I entered the 3rd trimester with the greatest fear of what labor & birth were going to be like. I had already read five books about pregnancy, labor, and birth and completed a standard antenatal course at my local hospital with an add-on course discussing natural pain relief options. Even with all of this information I approached my third trimester with the fear I would not be able to handle the labor and birth process. I began to have extreme anxiety that prevented me from sleeping and started to consider asking for a planned abdominal birth to feel more in control of my current situation.

At this point I began scouring the internet to find anything that would help to relieve the stress I was experiencing surrounding birth. One night I stumbled upon The Calm Birth School website and thought it sounded interesting, but wasn’t sure if I was really into the whole hypnosis thing. Knowing the clock to my guess date was ticking I decided to give the free trial course a try. I watched all three videos in the first day and began regularly listening to the relaxation track provided. After only a week I noticed that my sleep was starting to improve and my anxiety was beginning to decrease slightly, so I said, what the heck, and signed up for the full course online (I had no local instructors in my area at the time). After completing the course and gaining access to all of the relaxation tracks and positive birth affirmations I could feel my mindset shifting. Although I knew I could not control what happened on birth day I felt calm and confident knowing I could bring myself back to the state of deep relaxation I had learned to enter from practicing with my relaxation tracks.

The course also provides the medical based information taught in standard antenatal courses in a different format which made the birth process less “medicalized”, which for me meant less on the scary side and more on the informative side even though it covered all of the same information as my hospital based antenatal course. Prior to adopting a hypnobirthing practice, I never really understand how stories from family, friends, and television could negatively impact my view on labor and birth; but afterward, I felt free from others beliefs surrounding how birth should or could be.

I spent the last 6 weeks of my pregnancy focusing on positive birth stories and giving myself 20-30 minutes before bed to relax and focus on myself. Although things did not go exactly to plan with either of my births, I never let the situation control me but instead took everything in stride and with grace. I cannot thank The Calm Birth School enough for changing the way I viewed birth and my life after, which is why I want to provide this same opportunity to you. Not only has my mindset shifted regarding the entire birth process but for the first time in my life I felt I had the ability to truly listen to the thoughts in my head and decide if they were serving me in the moment or just bringing me down, such is the case with negative self-talk. I finally felt free and like I could conquer the world (which was necessary as motherhood is known to knock you down a few pegs from time to time).
