We continue to follow the growing outbreak of Measles in Texas and follow the recommendations from the local health departments. This week, a new advisement to increase vaccinations in Lamar County was released. Please see DSHS link below.

For patients who live in or frequently visit Lamar County, it is recommended that infants aged 6-12 months receive a dose of MMR vaccine. This dose will then be repeated when the infant is 12 months old per the recommended guidelines. Additionally, children aged 1-4 years should receive another dose of MMR at least 28 days after their first dose.

For patients in the surrounding areas but not residing in Lamar County, we continue to offer and make available these same doses as supplies allow, though it is not at this time a recommended dose from the health department.

We will be offering special shot only visits for these vaccine doses. Please contact our office via phone or My Chart to schedule for shot only. Should you have further questions, please schedule an appointment to discuss with your provider.

The Pediatric Clinic is aware of the 4 cases of measles reported in neighboring Lamar County. If your child hasn’t yet gotten their 12 month old vaccines-this is a great time to get the MMR that provides protection against Measles. If your child is older than 6 months of age and there is concern for their exposure, there is an option where MMR can be given early (but should be repeated at 12 months and 4 years). Babies younger than 6 months are generally considered protected with circulating antibodies from pregnant moms that have previously been vaccinated.
