Today members of the department along with the ladies auxiliary put in a full day of spreading holiday cheer. We started with our annual boot drive, followed by escorting Santa and Mrs. Claus, the Grinch, and Santa’s elf around our service area and giving each child a photo op and a treat. We finished our night by visiting all of our Life Members and widows and singing Christmas carols and giving them poinsettias. These traditions are what makes our department the close knit group that it is and ipresses upon our new and young members the importance of remembering the people that came before us and built this fire department. We could not do this without the work of our volunteers and the great community we serve. We also collected over 50 pounds of food for the Westmoreland County Food Bank.

Last evening members spent time training together with Mt. Pleasant VFD on SCBAs as well as victim search and rescue. Firefighters traversed through simulated smoke conditions into multiple furnished rooms and hallways looking for victims. While training we were dispatched to a mutual aid call with Mt. Pleasant for a possible ambulance on fire. Units arrived on scene and found a blown radiator hose in the engine compartment.

Shortly after returning from the earlier stand by call, Engine Rescue 37 was dispatched into Unity Township for a vehicle accident with possible entrapment. Rescue Captain 37 arrived on scene with a pickup truck overturned approximately 25’ into the woods and negative entrapment. Our crew of 3 vehicle rescue technicians and 2 EMT/vehicle rescue technicians assisted with removing the patient from the woods and traffic control.

A little behind for a Throwback Thursday but…This was the day our new 1990 Ford/Grumman pumper was delivered. This truck was one of the last C-900 chassis off the line before Ford discontinued them. The $160,000 price tag would be considered a bargain in today’s world. We still own this truck and is in reserve status but is ready to work when called upon. In the rear you can see our 1975 Ford Howe pumper, 1955 Ford pumper, 1976 Ambulance/Utility, and our 1990 Ford Econoline Ambulance.
