Troop 23 said good bye to the Florida keys and sea base. However there was reflection time with our crews and mates. The week ended with some free time in key west before the flight. A big thank you to Gatherer, Hunter and Fisher and the rest of the staff for a great week!

We paddled back the 6 miles back to sea base. Had a tour of the sea base coral nursery, played some games, and had closing ceremonies. What a week! Tomorrow, some time in Key West and back home!

In 2017, Hurricane Irma hit Big Munson Island, destroying much of its mangrove forest. Today, T23 helped plant the first trees here since the storm. It was an honor to give back and help restore this special place. The new trees were even carefully hidden from the local Key deer (Steve) as its one of their favorite snacks. Maybe 20 years from now troop 23 scouts will enjoy these fully grown trees during their sea base adventure!

Fishing day was an absolute success! Action was nonstop, yellowtail and mackerel were bitting and we even hooked a barracuda and a surprise pufferfish along the way. Plenty of keepers made for an absolute feast of fish for dinner. Now for night snorkeling to round out the day.

Six miles in the war canoes (and a quick snorkel stop at a reef) brought us to our island camp for the next five days, Big Munson Island. Perfect weather, and non-stop action made for an epic day: teamwork challenges, kayaking deep through tangled mangroves, and hunting lobsters in the shallows.… fishing tomorrow.

Troop 23 is off and running at Sea Base! Swim checks, done. snorkeling lessons done. Today we paddle war canoes to Big Munson Island for four nights of adventure. No watches. No cell phones. Just scouts, sea, and island time.

Adventure is underway! Troop 23 has arrived safely in the Florida Keys. We spent the night at Camp Sawyer exploring tide pools and soaking in a beautiful sunset and sunrise. Today we head to Sea Base. Can’t wait to see what’s next!

Troop 23 had an amazing day on the slopes. Everyone had a blast, and even first time skiers were cruising confidently by the end of the day. Great day and great weather!
