As an SLP, I see this often in my practice. I work with many children that do not qualify for extra services at school, but NEED extra support.

It’s a MYTH that an AAC device, such as this one, prevents a person from communicating. An AAC opens the floodgates for communication.

Here’s an example of AAC in action. This is a child that is working on speaking more clearly and confidently. While he is building those skills, we also use an AAC device to expand his words and have more detailed conversation. We use verbal speech in combination with an AAC device. This device also has words for him to use that he can’t quite say yet. The key word: yet.

Research shows that 1 in 4 children with speech sound disorders also show early reading difficulties (Rvachew et al., 2020).

In our experience, we often see higher percentages of speech/reading difficulties. This is why we prioritize both speech and reading during assessment and treatment.

If your child has difficulty with either, it’s important that they receive support as early as possible.

I work with many teens who struggle with confidence due to the way they speak, and/or their difficulties with learning.

Unfortunately, some teens even experience bullying or internal burdens related to these challenges. I do not condone bullying, and my goal is to provide support. In therapy, I give practical tools and strategies, but I also provide a safe space where they can speak openly about their experiences.
