So, as everyone has noticed, the sun IS coming out. 'Tis the season for everyone to ask themselves "...maybe I am healed?" πŸ™‚β€β†”οΈβœ¨

Seasonal Affective Disorder effects many people. The sun comes out and the reins of our depressive, doom and gloom moods loosen their grip and now you've got energy, motivation, and a suspicious urge to reorganize your entire life in one afternoon.

We love that for you. Truly. We want you to live your best life.

While we also practice 'two things can be true'... this is your gentle reminder to ✨still come to your scheduled therapy appointments✨.

We know the sun is shining and doing it's thing. We love it as much as you do. However, we're over here helping you make sure the progress sticks when the clouds come rollin' back in. Healing typically isn't seasonal, even when our mood sometimes is. Enjoy the light. Soak it up. Remember to touch that grass.

And... we'll see you next week πŸ˜‰πŸ’›.

Who Is Series ft. Dr. Janina Fisher

In the world of trauma recovery, Dr. Janina Fisher has helped reshape how we understand healing in ways that go far beyond traditional talk therapy.

Her work emphasizes that trauma isn't just something we "think" about. In fact, it lives in the body, in our nervous systems, and in the protective patterns we develop to survive. By normalizing things like dissociation, emotional overwhelm, and internal conflict as adaptive responses, she's helped reduce shame for so many individuals who once felt "too much" or "too broken".

Dr. Fisher has also played a key role in making trauma work more accessible for both clients and clinicians. Her integration of parts-based approaches with practical stabilization skills gives people tools they can actually use in everyday life.

One of her greatest, and most recognized shifts in the mental health world contributed to "What happened to you and how did you survive it?" instead of "What's wrong with you". This lens creates space for compassion, curiosity, and deeper healing.

If you've struggled with feeling fragmented, overwhelmed, or disconnected, Dr. Fisher's work can be a powerful reminder: your body and mind both adapted for a reason, and healing begins with understanding, not judgment.

Blue Lotus Essential Reads: March Edition πŸ€

Some books stay with you long after you've turned the last page. This book is definitely one of them!

Written by Viktor E. Frankl, this powerful read gently challenges how we think about hardship, trauma, and what it means to keep going when life feels impossible. Instead of focusing only on what is meant to break us, it invites us to consider an alternative perspective. To focus on what sustains us, or our sense of meaning, purpose, and even the smallest moments of hope.

For us in the counseling world, this book helped shift the conversation tremendously. It reminds us that while we don't always have control over what we go through, we do have the power to choose how we want to respond or approach a situation. Viktor Frankl shows that, in that space, there's room for growth, healing, and autonomy.

If you decide to pick it up, we'd love to hear what stands out to you ❀️. Let us know if you have any recommended reads! We'd love to hear about them.

03/19/2026

As humans, one of the most freeing things that we can learn is: two things can be true at the same time. You can love someone and still need boundaries. You can be grateful for your life and still want things to change or acknowledge hurts. Most importantly, you can be healing and still have bad days. Clinically, this is called "Dialectical Thinking".

So often in society we can feel the pressure to pick one side of how we feel, as if emotions have to fit neatly into a single box. I'm sure you know as well as we do: being human is rarely that simple. Sometimes our experiences can hold both/and, not either/or.

Allowing ourselves space to hold multiple truths or emotions can soften our self-judgment and remind us that complexity is not a flaw, but simply a part of being an authentic human.

So here is your daily reminder, two things can be true.
- Sincerely, Sam πŸ’Ÿ

Enjoy some humor, from us to you, on this wonderful Wednesday! In the therapy space, there are different styles of how your therapist may show up in the room. The Tik Tok below depicts the "Relational Therapist". What's the difference?

The classic "blank slate therapist" you sometimes see perceived in movies, can look a bit like this:
Client: "I've had the absolute worst day at the amusement park..."
Therapist: [Maintains composure, maybe gives a thoughtful nod] "Hmm, and how did that experience make you feel?"

Relational therapy takes a different and unique approach, recently emerging in the field of mental health. This approach recognizes that healing often happens within connection, not outside of it. Instead of the therapist being a mostly silent observer, sitting across from you like a mysterious detective of some sort, the relational therapist shows up as a real and engaged human. This helps to build trust, offers authentic presence, and creates a space where connection supports and assists the growth. In addition to this, it can also offer what's known as a "corrective experience".

At Blue Lotus, we mainly practice relational therapy because the therapeutic relationship can be a powerful part of healing. It's known to make up 50%+ of the effectiveness of your treatment, no matter the modality the therapist utilizes (i.e. CBT, DBT, EMDR). So, yes, you'll still hear those thoughtful questions, but you'll also experience genuine engagement, collaboration, and a therapist who strives to walk alongside you in the process. We understand that growth doesn't always come from talking at a blank wall, but being truly heard, seen, and connected.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!πŸ€

"May the roof above us never fall in, and may we friends gathered below never fall out" -- An Irish Blessing

This beautiful message reminds us of the importance of safety, connection, and belonging. Having a place where we feel supported and surrounded by people who walk alongside us can make all the difference in life's journey. Today, we're wishing everyone a sense of warmth, community, and meaningful connection (with a little luck, of course πŸ˜‰).

May your day be filled with laughter, support, and true connection. πŸ’š
