I did it!

I completed my birth doula training through the Simkin Center for Allied Birth Vocations at Bastyr University in the fall of 2014.

It took me about 3 years after that to complete all of the requirements for becoming a *certified* birth doula through DONA International, and I was so proud to accomplish that goal in the summer of 2017.

In order to stay certified, DONA doulas are required to complete continuing education every 3 years. This helps us to keep our skills and knowledge up-to-date. I have been working on my CE hours for the last few months after the kids are asleep in the evenings and on weekends.

I had to wait for my husband John to finish his master's degree before I had time to work towards this goal, and I wasn't sure if I would be able to do it because I felt overwhelmed trying to find the time, motivation, and focus in the midst of pandemic parenting a teething toddler and homeschooling my kinder girl. I almost gave up. But last night I submitted my packet online, with one day of margin before the deadline.

Cheers to another 3 years of being a DONA International certified birth doula. I can do hard things.

Happy spring to me!

Highly recommend!

After a chaotic transition into motherhood, I spent years in academia studying gender, families, and parenting. I had a deep desire to work with families one on one, so I got out of the classroom and began helping parents struggling with perinatal mood disorders feel okay again and assisting overwhe...
