This week we celebrate the beauty of different minds. Neurodiversity reminds us that every brain works in its own unique way and that those differences make our communities stronger.

At Leg Up Farm, we are honored to support children and families with diverse abilities through therapy, education, and equine-assisted programs that help every child reach their fullest potential.

Join us in celebrating the strengths, talents, and perspectives of individuals who think, learn, and experience the world differently.

Because different isn’t less, it’s extraordinary.

At Leg Up Farm, we see how tuning into the body helps clients feel grounded, safe, and connected. Paying attention to how your body feels: your posture, the weight of your feet, the movement of your arms can bring a sense of calm and clarity. Developing body awareness supports regulation, helps reduce tension, and allows small moments of progress to be noticed. When we take time to check in with our bodies, we create space for reflection, connection, and growth.

As part of a community taskforce reimagining the future of the Penn State Mont Alto campus after its planned closure, we’re exploring the possibility of locating our Franklin County pediatric therapy center in the campus Multi-Purpose Building. The vision for the campus is an integrated learning hub offering opportunities for high school and post–high school learners in healthcare, environmental studies, and skilled trades -- fields with growing workforce needs.

Being part of this hub could allow us to serve families sooner, strengthen partnerships with community organizations, and help preserve an important part of Franklin County’s history.

While Penn State reviews the proposal, we’ll continue fundraising and pursuing both this option and our planned site near Penn National.

Learning Thursday | Week 2: Shift the Goal

Instead of preventing every meltdown, we focus on anticipating patterns and supporting the nervous system early.

Look for signs like:
• Transition challenges
• Sensory overload cues
• Hunger, fatigue, or schedule shifts
• Early body signals (tight fists, pacing, tone changes)

The goal isn’t perfect behavior, it’s skill-building through support.

When hard moments happen:
- Hold the boundary calmly
- Stay present
- Connect first

Growth happens in the pause, the support, and the connection. 💛

At Leg Up Farm, gentle stretching is more than just movement, it’s a way to help the body feel safe, supported, and ready to engage. Slow, mindful stretches can release tension, improve body awareness, and create space for calm. When clients take these moments to listen to their bodies, even small movements can have a meaningful impact on regulation and comfort. These pauses also offer opportunities for connection, reflection, and noticing progress over time. Gentle stretching reminds us that care for the body is also care for the mind.

Learning Thursday | March Focus: Pause. Connect. Regulate.

At Leg Up Farm, whether in OT, PT, or ST, we come back to one core truth:
Connection builds capacity.

This month, we’re sharing one simple but powerful strategy families can try at home: ✨ The 7-Second Rule ✨

After you ask a question, give a direction, or model language… pause.
Silently count to seven. It sounds small, but it makes a big difference.

Processing takes time...Motor planning takes time...Regulation takes time...Confidence takes time.

When we pause, we give children space to initiate communication, organize their bodies, solve problems, and feel respected.

💡 Try this during playtime: Ask a question or offer a prompt, then count to seven before stepping in. Watch for eye contact, gestures, sounds, or words.

Growth often happens in the quiet. And sometimes, the most powerful support we give is simply space.

At Leg Up Farm, we see how slowing down can help both children and adults feel more grounded and connected. Taking time to pause, notice your surroundings, and move with intention allows the body and mind to settle. When we slow down, small moments of connection, observation, and learning become more visible and meaningful. These pauses support regulation, reflection, and a greater sense of calm throughout the day. Even a few intentional moments of slowing down can make a lasting difference.
